I'd be great with them playing it on a Friday night. Doesn't have to compete with NFL, and would dominate the ratings that night.

What's the reason for Monday again?

You can always watch the Bachelor if you don't like MNF.

More people will watch the game tonight than would watch on a Friday

Basic premise: the NFL is for unsophisticated, uneducated peasants (plebs, the unwashed masses, the hoi polloi, the proletariat). These people outnumber their intellectual betters. Unable to appreciate the rich tradition and pageantry of college football, these people have been given "a league of their own" - and that league has to play on weekends, when these people have literally nothing else to do except stare blankly at a TV because they're incapable of arranging their schedules far enough in advance to watch something on a weeknight. Look at the ratings for Sunday Night Football vs. Monday Night Football (SNF blows MNF out of the water).

That's why we're on Monday. Only a quarter of Americans attend 4-year postsecondary institutions. The other 3/4 need the horrific combination of TMZ and athletic contest that is the modern NFL in order to give their lives some sense of meaning.

As I said before, it makes no sense why this game wasn't scheduled to be played last Thursday. You would have the normal week off plus it would only be six days after the last bowl game was played. Also, everybody's so busy talking about the NFL playoffs that this game is on the back burner of every football fan's mind. If this game was played last week before the NFL playoffs, it would be getting a lot more attention.

Imagine the ratings on a Saturday night

No thanks. Saturday night ratings would be much lower than virtually any other night of the week.

TVs most watched night is actually Thursday. The second most watched night is Monday. There are multiple reasons the game is on Monday - no competition from NFL game, big audience night, own the evening.

It will be one of the top 5 most watched events on TV all year - perhaps second only to the Super Bowl.
