it's a crying shame. most of the a-hats on here won't sympathize but I do. I think any university is susceptible to being "held up" like that. all it took was the football team jumping in.
it's possible the adm let things go too far and that's the reason they left (got canned, quit, whatever). but it is apparent that the demands of this protest group were unreasonable. they seemed pissed that the adm didn't listen to them but in todays society that could mean they were pissed because the adm didn't immediately and wholeheartedly capitualate.
while i'm not sure what the solution was but giving in to their demands was not it. they have empowered extremists and that's never a good thing. creating "safe zones" for a race is bad stuff, esp when the reason for it was racial slurs shouted from a moving pick up truck. oh, and that "professor" should have been canned. she doesn't believe in the first amendment for anyone but herself or her radical cause.
this is gonna cost the state of mizzouri a fortune. and unnessarily.

Not saying you're wrong but I believe the whole thing has been blown up by everyone, especially on the various sports boards. I just don't think it's as big as everyone else thinks it is -- it's emotional yes but not nearly this humungous event that people have made it out.
This is the truth. I was in CoMo a couple of weeks after all this happened and you wouldn't have known anything had happened there. Fact is, people are more misinformed now than we ever have been before.
But, Mizzou football will suck for the foreseeable future.

You shouldn't, because we've been ahead of the curve on this. We put forth diversity measures for a good decade in order to prevent something like the Mizzou situation from happening. Plus we have the highest African American enrollment in the entire SEC. Haven't heard an inkling from our campus about protests remotely similar to those going around the country. I could see it exploding on Alabama's campus before it does on ours.
You think because you caved on all the issues at play without forcing any meaningful analysis of whether the concerns are legitimate that you won?
OK.
You still have segregated fraternities, class differences between the students and numerous other SJW hot button issues at play and you think theyre done with you? Good Luck. You empowered them and bought off the first round of protestors with BS cultural awareness jobs to "make it go away", thats all youve accomplished.

you calling someone a pussy is hilarious, you hide behind alt handles and close your eyes to the mess made by pinkel and the mizzou idiots running that campus, who is the bigger pussy the one who faces the truth or the one who hides from it, LIKE YOU.

Because people who recognize and acknowledge the truth are the problem, and those like you who believe "everything just fixes itself" even after you screw up badly the way pinkel and the administration did have it right,,, well, you can believe your garbage all day long.
You are the one supporting the acquiescence to campus radical loons and pretending or actually believing it's "no big deal".
This isn't going away in a few months and maybe not for many many years.

What, do you mean getting rid of Colonel Reb? When we had him, we were lucky to get a Top 20 class. Now we're in the Top 5. That was positive getting rid of him.
We never really succumbed to them, we were ahead of them. They haven't had the time to take hold like they did in Mizzou.

Liberalism is a blight on this nation. Mark my words, today it is Mizzou, tomorrow it is at your school. These liberals WILL NOT let up.

see this is exactly the point, this ole miss poster thinks "diversity measures" are a "new thing" from only a decade ago.
mizzou has had "diversity measures" for about a half century now.. (that's 50 years for you ole miss grads) this whole thing has nothing to do with a need for "diversity measures" it's a bunch of phony hoopla and a "cause" for a bunch campus idiots who are bored and don't know any better. The only reason it ever got any traction is because of clown pinkel backing some dimwits on his team to strike over this stupidity.
mizzou is now in full spin acting as though they have to fix something that is broken which indicts a half century worth of the campus as thought they are guilty as charged. mizzou has had multiple and various "diversity programs" for a half century, but you wouldn't know it because no one at mizzou is smart enough to stand up and say so.
you don't fix this kind of stupid dishonesty by agreeing with it.

you are right about all of it, the only difference is in how you respond, if you do what mizzou does and behave as though you are guilty and submit to the demands of someone calling for a resignation over "white privilege" or if you stand up for yourself and say, "No, sorry, but we aren't going to play your silly game", "you children have had your fun pretending to be 60's campus radicals, now it's time to go back to your dorms and study before you flunk out".
As for the administration like the Click and the other one who work for the university,,, "Your final check will be mailed, collect your things and GET OUT".
That's how you "fix it".

check out the faces of the goofy little snowflake girls who are clearly just there to yuk it up and "you know, be involved".
listen to this character talk about idiot radicals..(and he's right)

Is it just coincidence that the top journalism school in the country is also in the news every other day?

Mizzou as we know it is toast. Godspeed Mizzou, we hardly knew ye.

It is a bonfire. And Pinkel lit the dam gas
yea this isn't just at mizzou but you would hope most adults are smarter than pinkel, seems likely they would be, and wouldn't support this kind of lunacy.
pinkels famous last words on this decision(from his KC radio interview),,
"absolutely I DID THE RIGHT THING.. I'd do it again"
and those fools are still paying that idiot to be on campus.

Any word on the transfers by students out of there? A friend of mine took his son out with the quickness. Sent him to UT. Some of his friends followed suit and have transferred to other SEC schools.

I've heard a number of mizzou alumni say they will no longer support their child going to MU, but I'm sure this will just "blow over in a few months".
As the OP said:

With me, this is bigger than football.
Many, many of us who are MU alums feel the exact same way.

I hate what is happening at Mizzou. I fear the only way for it to stop is to hit rock bottom, which will be when Alums quit giving money and sending their own kids there. My friend is an Alum. He met his wife and mother of his children there. Still, he pulled his son and severed ties with the university. Sad situation.
