Ok, this shite has to stop. Mizzou bumps its chest about burning Lawrence down. Yes, we all know this. But God knows yalls fans wouldn't bring up support of slavery if you were celebrating a Big Ten invite instead of an SEC one. The funny thing is that it matters less to us than the fact the state of Missouri calls Coke "pop" or some shite.
Seriously with the B1G shite again? This has been disputed with fact so much on here that I cannot fathom why you would still bring it up. Wait...oh, I get it. What bait you trollin with Swoopin?

ETA: That's why I said in another thread STL takes after New Orleans more than some "yankee" city. The catholic areas in Missouri come from the French connections to Louisiana and the Louisiana purchase.
You do know their "religious" beliefs are the same as most southerners. Southern Baptist, someone had a map showing all the counties in U.S. with large southern baptists populations. Missouri was right there along with all the southern states. Stuck out like a sore thumb with Kansas, Iowa, Illinois, Nebraska counties not colored in. That holds more stock than what someone calls a drink.lol.

I call bullshite. That map had SoMO baptists, trust me, the population bases are all catholic all the time. You should know in KC.
Wait, are presbos considered Baptists? Upon further review the amount of Baptists in NoMO confounds me.

Someone, maybe you, have made this great point before and they don't get it or care... they keep going back to the ole coke argument.. which they keep getting wrong, no one in Missouri calls it pop. If they're going to make fun of us for it, get it right, we call it soda. But I do know some people that only call it coke (just not many).

The burning of Lawrence was a wonderful thing.

Anyone who knows anything about me knows that I have Mizzou ties. But they are just that- ties. In no way is the Missouri branch of my family "southern", especially compared to my Alabama family. Not as a whole, anyways. Missouri as a state is not southern. Does it have agrarian qualities? Yes. Was it a slave state? Halfway. Are either of those sufficient for being "southern"? Hell no.
FWIW the American baptist movement started in Rhode Island. But even that is to miss the point. To pretend any one factor makes a group southern is to exactly prove my point. My Coke example was an illustration of this.
It's much more complex than that, and frankly, not essential to Missouri's identity. My original point is that Missouri wouldn't claim to be southern at all to fans of another conference had they landed there. It's only important if they make it- and frankly, they don't fit the bill. I'm telling yall not to worry about it, especially in the pretentious fashion that one poster judged his fellow "southerners".
Just be who you are. Which in Missouri's case, is smack dab in the middle of a bunch of crossing American sub-cultures. I think that's cool enough, and is something I'm proud of since I have a Missouri branch of the family.

We are not Yankees or Southern. We are Missourians.

Truth. They'd be Mid-Westerners, identifying with them, if they had joined B1G. That is just natural though I suppose.
I'm glad we've cleared this up finally and we can move on. It's nice to close the door on whether or not Missouri is Southern. They aren't and we all just have live with it thanks to Slive. We'll get used to it, eventually.
I just hope Syracuse isn't next. Hell, there's farms all over Upper New York State. The next thing you know they would be calling themselves Southern.

I'm one of yalls biggest cheerleaders on this board that is not straight-up Mizzou affiliated.
It just seems disappointing for some of the fans to be putting forward some southern identity that is neither necessary or realistic. The SEC has expanded into a non-"southern" state. It's not the end of the world, and nothing yall have to apologize for or compensate for.

Does this mean we can stop with the "MIZ would rather be in the B1G" bull shite? If so, I endorse this message. We're Missourians is 100% dead on. Regardless, we're also 100% SEC.
