Their Billboard in Jax must have been cheap based on it's location. Let's just say it's not in the best part of town.

None in TN either? They don't want TN high school players?

These have been up for a while. We know we don't have a lot of name recognition in the south, and this is part of an overall strategy to get our name out there. Sure, recruiting is one reason, but there are others. You have to start somewhere. It's tough to recruit if no one knows anything about you. We need to get people talking about Mizzou. Looks like it's working!

It's only working on TD as far as I can tell.

SEC teams have been doing this for a while, I actually applaud the effort and attempt to move forward rather than just joining and saying "where's our check."

If it's working here, it's working elsewhere too.

Don't know the area.....any chance it is in a "fertile recruiting area"? I thought there was one in the Tampa area, as well........

Awww, thanks!!

Seriously though - what do you want us to do? Join the best conference in the NCAA and make no effort? I'm kind of surprised A&M hasn't done it too, maybe they feel like they don't need to. But we're trying to introduce a whole new part of the country to Mizzou. As a marketing/PR person, I'm glad they're doing something!

This just in: top level high school athletes often times unfortunately reside in what might be referred to as the "rough" parts of large cities.

No, it's not in a fertile recruiting area. If they moved it 10 miles North then it would have been.

I don't care how many billboards you guys put up. If your marketing department thinks it helps then it's good by me.

No. I don't think JAX really has any of those. Definitely not to the extent other cities might.

This just in: the area where the billboard sits is not filled with D1 athletes. Just trust me on this one. I understand what you are trying to say though. You guys can probably pull a few 2 stars from there though.

If I'm not mistaken, it's between the airport and Downtown which makes some sense.

roadGator - hey, that's kinda what we do. We pulled Sean Weatherspoon as a 2 star linebacker from Texas and he is doing quite nice for the Atlanta Falcons now. Danario Alexander was a 2 star wide receiver from Texas also, and is now in the NFL after becoming the all-time single season receiving leader at our school. Chase Daniel was only a 3 star, and so on.

Our coaching staff is definitely in more of the "outside the box" camp when it comes to recruiting tactics. In that regard this whole billboard thing doesn't surprise me. They aren't just doing it to throw it up there and see what happens, they obviously have really looked into things and think they know of some spots where they can similarly hunt for diamonds in the rough that SEC powers may pass on...that was their EXACT strategy in Texas where Mizzou also had no recruiting presence prior to the formation of the Big 12, and it worked pretty well for them. Will it work in this league I don't know, but they know what they're trying to do with all this activity that's for sure.

It's within sight of downtown. Closer to the airport would have been better to get the First Coast HS kids some views. Their best players aren't going to Mizzou but some of their good players may.
