quote:

With a dramatic decline in enrollment at Missouri's largest public university, talk in the state has turned to the role of the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville in attracting students.

"In Kansas City, they are taking a lot of our students," Missouri state Rep. Greg Razer, a Democrat who represents the Missouri city, said in a Feb. 12 budget hearing.

quote:

The University of Missouri saw undergraduate enrollment decline to 23,817 students this past fall, down more than 14.3 percent from 27,812 in fall 2015.

Data from UA published online shows a sharp increase six years ago in Missouri students, while recent years have seen their numbers mostly holding steady.

quote:

He showed UA to be the second most popular out-of-state destination school for Missouri students in 2016, with only the University of Kansas attracting more Missouri students. For the same year, UA was the most popular destination institution for out-of-state students from Texas, enrolling more first-year Texans than the University of Oklahoma.

quote:

Sarah Komar, 19, is a first-year UA student who attended Park Hill South High School near Kansas City, Mo. She estimated that about 10 students from her graduating class are attending UA.

"I wanted to come here because my brother goes here, and also it's a little closer to home. And I just liked it better when I visited," Komar said, adding that her brother, Stephen, earned a similar scholarship award offered by UA.

She said she never seriously considered attending a school in Missouri, citing "so many cuts to public education."

So we added a poor unpopular state to the SEC for eyeballs on TVs? But what happens when everyone has moved out? Thousands of folks, and the St. Louis Rams, have found the state unappealing enough to leave. Could the Missouri decline lead to a boot from the SEC?

One can hope. Maybe the Missouri Valley Conference? Perfect name and fit.

This is not incredibly surprising just looking at license plates in Fayetteville. OU has historically been more of a "Texas" university than Arkansas. It's only 3 hours from DFW.

Did you read the article? Is Kansas City considered southwest? Clearly your map reading sucks, since yall think St Louis is in the Southeastern US. But I didn't know it was this bad

1. Arky offers in state tuition to Missouri kids, Mizzou doesn't do the same.

2. Arkansas is much easier to get into than Mizzou is.

3. Mizzou freshmen enrollment and transfer numbers this year have increased greatly over last year.

I don't know if this is still the case, but Colombia used to be a really dirtbag town. Pretty sure they used to have a monstrous Meth problem or another drug problem? When I lived in Kansas like 15 years ago I believe they had one of the largest swat teams in the country?

Long story short, majority of Missourians live in Kansas City and St Louis, Colombia has really absolutely nothing to offer them. Its a crappy mid sized town in the middle of no where. Not sure why its a surprise their in state students would prefer to go elsewhere?

Reading comprehension tip: The article is about Missouri kids. They have instate tuition at both. Yet they are choosing Arkansas.

I would think Missouri may do decent at attracting kids from around the midwest to an "SEC" school. They should be recruiting Chicago, Milwauki, etc. I would think? Do the same thing Arkansas is doing.
