The Maroon Dawgs were the first college football program to be ranked #1 by the CFP committee in 2014.
Mississippi State also has an unclaimed national title for 1940 as listed in the NCAA Official Records Book. They were ranked #1 by the 1940 NCAA Division 1A Football Power Ratings LINK Their record was 10-0-1.
Miss. State has won one SEC title (1941); they finished second to Tennessee in 1940 as the Vols finished 5-0-0 and the Dawgs finished 4-0-1.
They have won one SEC-West Division title in 1998.

The tie was against LSU. Mississippi State was struggling but the refs wanted them to win so they fricked LSU.

Interesting tidbit about that team - they got stuck on the west coast after playing an extra regular season game in San Francisco on 12/6 (we all know what happened on 12/7).
