quote:And what exactly is wrong with this? LSU fans are passionate and hate losing, but are also resiliant. It's what being a fan is all about. It's a very emotional process. It's what being a college football fan is all about. I guess the opposite of this would be someone who didn't get upset over it's teams struggles, but then thought they'd get beat prior to every game. I'd rather we have delusional fans who liveed and died with the team with it's ups and downs than to have fans that didn't care one way or the other. Those wouldn't actually be fans.
quote:
Saturday: Despondent over piss poor showing of team, win or lose
Sunday: See above
Monday: Still negative, but I guess there were a few bright spots
Tuesday: Hope blossoms. The DL looked awesome
Wednesday: Confidence grows: Jefferson turns it around this week
Thursday: Delusion looms: We are gonna win!
Friday: Delusion takes over: We are gonna win, and win big!
This is the most accurate description of our fanbase right now. I can't disagree with this.

Nice Post. That describes most passionate fanbases around the country. Actually, that perfectly describes the gumps just a few short years ago.

LSU fans are passionate
All you need to know is that the word "fan" is short for fanatic. Fanatic as defined by Webster's: "marked by excessive enthusiasm and often intense uncritical devotion"
In other words, don't expect rational, critical thinking from a fan. Fans are extremists, by definition.
Now, an alumnus like myself with multiple degrees, is able to be a irrational fan when I want to but I can switch it off and dabble in rational analysis of my alma mater. I was a fan and a Baton Rouge native long before I was a student. I was in Tiger Stadium in 1991, the last time Moo State won in Baton Rouge. They ran the wishbone or triple option all night long and got an obscene amount of yards on the ground -- 407 yards rushing, 25 out of 27 first downs on the ground. It was that night I learned to really hate their damn kazoo playing three note wonder band. That loss cost LSU a winning season, but in hindsight they did us a great favor by putting the first nail in Curley's coffin. As I recall, Moo State beat LSU a few times in the 80s by running some variant of the option, which our defense was terrible at stopping.
So does Moo State have a chance? You bet. In fact, I'd say they have at least a 40% chance of winning and a very good chance of covering the spread. They nearly beat Auburn last weekend, a team ranked in the same neighborhood as LSU. Moo State is long overdue for an upset in Baton Rouge and LSU fanatics are eager for any reason to yank Jefferson and the entire coaching staff. But I hope Miles and Jefferson have a great game and win by at least 3 TDs. I haven't given up on either and I'm sick and tired of the nonstop pessimism in Baton Rouge. You'd think we had Curley Hallman and Jamie Howard at the helm.
So assuming Curley isn't roaming the sidelines and Moo State doesn't successfully resurrect the option all night long, here's my sober, reasoned prediction:
LSU 24, Moo State 14
Defense and minimizing offensive mistakes will be LSU's key to victory. LSU will play very conservative, risk averse football. State will swing for the fences every chance they get.

Surrendering 25 rushing first downs and 400 yards on the ground will breed a lot of hate.
I wonder what bridge Curley is living under these days...

They definitely have a chance with the way we've been playing lately. Hopefully the offense steps it up tonight though

Mark May played for Sherill at Pitt and has been to State numerous times...probably was more of a pick from a rooting interest.

There is always a chance. That's why they play the game on the field instead of paper.

Bump from me also lots of ppl are eating crow predicting an ugly LSU win or not even a win at all
Posted on 9/18/10 at 11:48 pm to tigerfighter
It honestly was an ugly win, LSU forced 5 turnovers that it could only convert into 16 points. The LSU passing game was almost non-existent unless you believe 96 yards is great. The running game looked rough until the 4th quarter when it gained 57 yards of it's 167.
Defense and special teams carried LSU tonight, the offense was put in favorable positions to score and they managed to. However you are not going to beat the good teams with field goals.
