Former 5 star Ty Simpson has been on the roster for several years. Certain members of the team basically holding Saban and DeBoer hostage to keep Milroe as the starter prevented him from seeing the field much. All reports from camp last Spring and Fall said he took to DeBoer's system like a duck to water. I'd give him the inside track to start.
Mack transferred from Washington with DeBoer, so he knows his system very well.
Russel is a highly rated 5 star coming in with this class. A lot of hype around this guy.
Wouldn't be surprised to see a portal QB brought in for depth like Buchner last season.

This guy in CFB Nerds Josh is saying that Saban missed badly in 21/22 class. Most of that class transferred and aren’t playing at their universities. He is saying that if you break down the roster most of the starters were transfer guys or true freshmen. According to him Saban missed badly on his last two classes.

Tom Brady says hello. He was drafted in the 6th round (199th overall) in the 2000 NFL. I'm not saying Milroe is the next Tom Brady, however my guess is no one thought much of Brady either (or they would have drafted him earlier).

Nah, he'll put up amazing numbers at the combine and be taken 3rd or earlier based on that alone.
Being an athletic freak and NFL GMs/Coaches believing they can fix anyone will take him far.
