Would be for Nico not to play in the FBS level this next year. And if he does, it would be better for all of the sport if he didn’t start.

Teams should unofficially blackball him. Could maybe take away some of the ridiculous leverage players have now

I don’t understand why the NCAA doesn’t just kill the loopholes. This isn’t hard. You can have NIL or an open transfer portal. You can’t have both. Reimplement transfer regulations and shut this mercenary shite down.

It essentially the NFL without contracts. Who's to keep the freshman wide receiver from Ohio state that killed it in the playoffs from making an open statement that he's accepting all bidders every single year until he's nfl eligible. We lost like 4 receivers in the transfer portal last year. 1 that started. It's insane. I don't even know what our reciever room looks like next year. I don't have the time to keep up with it.

Because the federal courts of the United States have told them they can't!

They are treating this like a business, which it is. It's a sport but it's a business. It's not special in the eyes of the courts, it's just like any other business.

And before anyone starts screaming about liberals, the main Supreme Court decision in this was 9-0, liberals and conservatives on the same side, and Brett Kavanaugh signaled in his opinion he'd go even farther in giving the players leverage.

Prevent them from being paid for their talents. And if a case ever gets there about the portal, I guarantee you the athletes will win that too.

No way the Supreme Court rules that the NCAA cannot structure rules for transfer. Just go back to 1 time transfer OOC or sit 1 year.

I will bet you every penny in my IRA ... and I'm retired so I need that money ... that they will.

You're making the mistake 90% of the posters in this forum who are so raging mad at this are making. You are viewing it through old-fashioned eyes as a sport, as something traditional and special. The courts are viewing this as any other jlllion-dollar business, wiithout considering how many people (i.e., old-school fans) think it's "special" or considering any of the traditions.

That’s exactly how I’m viewing it, too.
Tell me, can professional players transfer anywhere they want to whenever they want to?

They absolutely could go anywhere they wanted to if they hadn't contractually agreed to limit those rights in the best interests of the sport. That's the difference.

That is what has to happen here, a negotiated settlement by which college players agree to limit their mobility in the best interests of the sport. but too many fans want to see these uppity players put in their place by having something imposed on them, like somebody posting earlier today, "Make players poor again."

The only way people and businesses will continue to contribute to NIL is if players are limited to if/when they can leave the school. Either the market finds a solution or the market will go away.

And that’s what I was talking about. This is 100% a business decision for all parties involved.

We are absolutely on the same page there. The portal cannot continue in its present form. Aside from turning fans off, it's going to drive coaches crazy. There's not enough money on this planet or any planet in this or any known solar system to get me to be a coach or a "college GM" or AD in this environment.

I think we will see a return to some form of sanity. TN telling him to kick rocks is actually a step in that direction.

And that will wind up in court in a collusion case that the players will with 100% metaphysical certainty win.

Blackball an athlete because he placed a value on his skill set. I thought this part of the country believes in capitalism.
