of all the bullshite in this thread, I have yet to see someone with actual knowledge give the details of WHY Oher might have possibly left $0 tip. You people saying that under NO CIRCUMSTANCES should you leave no tip are mistaken. If a server spills my drink in my lap.............they get NO TIP.

I work in the service industry. I know what it's like. Not giving any tip is shitty. I'll lower my tip if the server sucks, down to 5% even if they totally suck, but not tipping shows you are of shitty character. That simple.

If somebody spilled a drink in MO's lap, surely that would have been a better story.
I doubt someone would complain about not getting a tip if they dropped a drink in Oher's lap.

Not necessarily. When someone is not doing their job and puts more importance on yakking to friends or trying to watch a tv or listen to a radio in the back room than to make sure I have something as simple as something to drink, then they have only earned what the restaurant pays them. If I want to go thirsty, I'd run a marathon. If I'm at a sitdown restaurant. Do your job or not, but don't expect anything if you don't take care of the most simple of things.

Both of you doubt Oher had a legitimate reason however, you do not know. I agree that there must be some agregious circumstance in order to justify $0 tip. It is sometimes warranted.

Only one time have I left no tip.
Went to IHOP needing some hangover cure like nobodies business. Waited 20 minutes to be seated in an almost empty restaurant. Waited 15 minutes to get a glass of water, 30 minutes for my order to be taken, then another 45 for the food to actually get to me.
10 minutes after I told her that I needed my check, I got up with my date and started heading for the door. She stopped me just in time to pay her in exact change.

Some people realize people make mistakes and don't get uptight about shite like that. Some people do, they are known as tools. If dude meant to spill it on you it's one thing, or even if he/she did things terribly wrong and put themselves in a position where they were probably going to spill something...I really do understand. That happens just about never.
