Look at what SI has done to their swimsuit issue.

I think Mike the Tiger is by far the most intimidating het handsome animal on the list. I could watch a well kept Tiger all day, but I'd welcome a lost blue tick to my back yard any day. (Actually, I have, some of them do get lost and all we have to do is call the owners.)

Bevo has too much horn to have a personality. When Bevos die to they bury or slow roast them. Same question for the Buffalo.

All the silly mascots made up of foam and paint...ok, if you read the warning labels to go with the costumes. I'd never seen Stanford's Tree before; an homage to old man Stanford's money might be more fitting.

Smokey X has retired. Meet our new blue tick hound.

Smokey XI

and that page has a link that I can't seem to copy with a short video that has both the dogs, and XI is a typical gangly puppy.

This is the wholesome, field good content I come to this site for.

Oh, wait.

Georgia has had 10 UGAs since 1955. UT has had 10 Smokeys since 1953. That being said, 2 Smokeys reigns were cut short by car accidents and 1 was poisoned and one was "retired" after it took a nip at a band member...

The Uga line is so inbred that they can expect to get 2-3 years as mascot til they get put down. The older ones went 8-9 years. You would think a wold class Vet school like UGA could figure out that inbreeding is a negative. But hell just look at the students, maybe they are worried about offending the natives

On one hand, I would think a Tennessee fan would be an expert on inbreeding. However, just as I'm my father's son, and he his father's son, and so on. And we all have/had wives from other families we, just like UGA mascots, are not inbred. You breeding with your cousin on the other hand............

Politics. No one wants to take things away from the current breeder/owner but he or she isn't adding enough genetic diversity to the line because they're going for either a specific look or relationship to current and past Uga's. They'd do well to bring in a new line. Yes, it would change the looks a little but not nearly as much as a lot of breeder's fear.

You can't completely eliminate genetic problems in a breed but you can add some diversity that would help the individual Uga line (or any line for that matter).

We're far more refined 'up North.' Unlike y'all we know that breeding with your cousin is a lot better than breeding with your sibling.

The father of a litter is always part of the Uga line, which dates to 1956, the mother is totally remote from the Uga line. That’s not inbreeding, that’s lineage. And it produces the best live mascot in all of CFB, according to almost every list you’ll find.
