Yeah I wear a bracelet on my wrist for one of my buddies. But, I could have a few more bracelets with names on them. Heard someone tell us happy Memorial Day today and not sure how I feel about that. It’s not a happy day. April 26 and April 29 suck and so does this weekend. I get that everyone enjoys the lake and days off but this holiday hits different

I couldn’t agree more. We will never be able to repay them adequately. Ever

And I don’t expect them too. It’s a paid holiday. Heck, I’m sure our guys would want us to enjoy whatever we plan. Just weird hearing happy Memorial Day.

I think of the men I knew and worked with who were drafted to go to Vietnam and some of the stories they told of being put out in marshes and left to fight and survive til their underwear rotted off as their buddies were dying around them. They’d make a push to gain ground and be called off because they were winning.

These men were spit on when they came home and had no idea why. Sure some soldiers did some bad things but the majority of them were fighting to live and get back home, there was no attempt to win anything from the top.

I was fortunate that that crap ended the year I graduated high school or I could have been one of them. 1A on my draft card and waiting to die.

Things are vastly different now, as they should be, but what happened to cause the change in this? It’s not to be offensive and I appreciate everyone who defends our country, but the Vietnam veterans deserve a hell of alot of respect in my eyes because they were doing what this country called upon them to do just like the rest, they were just put in a losing situation for money and greed.
