there has been a pretty clear progression of the "barking at people."

it used to happen on occasion, particularly with very drunk or pretty trashy folks. uga fans, particularly alums, would consider it odd and not really do it. we'd still give our woofs when calling the dogs or on kickoffs and all that fun stuff, but that was it.

then, 2 things happened in the last 5-10 years.

1) we got really fricking good
2) everyone made it very clear that they absolutely fricking hate getting barked at

that leads us to today. more than half the time it's a joke, like the video of the kids crawling around posted in this thread. the rest of the time, maybe 33% of instances, it's probably not a joke. but it's not gonna stop now. because you all hate it.

Just watched it twice just to make sure I didn't miss the "trashy" part. Never heard it.

Clickbait titles on here are sort of pathetic and scream crying out for attention.

Its an urban legend and one that discredits anyone who repeats it in the same way returning soldiers returning from Vietnam getting spit on discredits the soldier in question. If either ever actually happened somebody would have toted an arse whupping and there'd be a record of it somewhere because somebody would have gone to jail and possibly the hospital. All of these SEC fans running about claiming someone got in their face and barked at them in Athens on a football Saturday when emotions are running high and the alcohol is flowing are either lying or pussies who let a grown man get in their face and bark at them. UGA fans couldn't get by with barking in one another's faces without someone getting their arse whupped yet entire gangs or visiting fans have had it happen and did frick all about it. Of course there will be the internet warriors along any minute with the "I whupped that barking motherfrickers arse" but I will guarantee you that if you press them for details...date especially, and name, there will be no record of it at the Athens Clarke County jail Most of the claimants will tell you about a friend of their cousin's friend's aunt's nephew....it won't be them because they know when pressed for details they will have amnesia. It did not and does not happen and anyone claiming otherwise has not stopped to consider what would ensue if it did happen.

Why would I hate opposing fans making tards out of themselves? By all means, woof your damn brains out. I don't think Texas fans could get enough of it.

Serious question....you were in Athens and at least one if not several grown, adult men (you said men so it would be more than one) got in your face....and there wasn't a fist fight which ensued? Notice I left out the barking part because simply having an adult man get in another man's face would result in a physical althercation....let one of them start barking and its gonna escalate right quick.

Now if you are telling me someone barked at you from an acceptable distance and did not invade your personal space to do so I will believe that....done it many times myself in fun to fans of other teams who took it in good spirit...but not getting up in someone's business...that'll cause a fist fight to break out anywhere on the planet, yet you say it happened more than once, so the question is how many fights ensued?

Nobody hates it. People just record you doing it so they can laugh about it and post it on the internet so everyone else gets laugh at you dumbasses too.

Not as stupid as grown men barking on the sidewalk. I think the majority of the SEC would agree.

SO no one has actually ever witnessed nor had a grown man walk up to them, in Athens or anywhere on the planet, and bark in their face without a fist fight breaking out. I have, however, seen this in person....several times, but once in Athens it was a gorgeous blond hair waif of a girl, no more than 6 or 7 years old, wearing a garnett Tee shirt with "I Love The Cocks" on it. I have seen men wearing the same thing but they were adults...what they do is their business, the heart wants what the heart wants, but any group of people who would not be put out by that young girl wearing that shirt are sick. Or they reside in Murphy Village, SC. Either way its sick.....

We will definitely call the Dawgs in Austin.

I have called the Dawgs in Austin. Thanksgiving night, 2015, just before the Texas Texas Tech game outside of the Scholtz Garden. We were drinking beer in the beer garden and a group of about 20 folks came strolling down the street and several of them had on UGA hats. I had a UGA hat on also. Turns out they were UGA students who were visiting friends in Austin....we called the Dawgs several times that night.

By the way that was a pretty good game. Rained like hell and it was hot and stuffy in November of all things,...because its Texas and if you don't like the weather wait about 10 minutes and it will change....Texas Tech won in Austin for the first time in about 20 years in a high scoring back and forth game. Capacity crowd, very good game going on on the field, and for about 55 of 60 minutes of the game you could have a conversation with people 5 rows in either direction without raising your voice....almost eerily quite....

The was 2008 or 2009, whatever year the cocks were in Athens. I took my new dog for a walk through north campus pretty early but there were still people out and about tailgating. I was wearing a faded black UGA shirt that said "GEORGIA" across the front, but because of the faded look of the design, it looked more like sc's garnet and black. More than one drunk frat boy barked in my face, too drunk to read the big letters on the front of my shirt. Those of you UGA fans who say they'd never seen the barking, walk around pregame undercover and you'll find out. It's super trashy.

From 1992 -2006 I did not miss a UGA home game nor a cocktail party. I have had 4 season tickets since 1992 and 4 SEC CG tickets since the first year it was in Atlanta. I have been to a pile of games since 2006, have been to a pile of UGA games on the road and have spent many days and nights in sports bars around the US and the world when UGA was playing, with crowds of UGA fans as well as fans of opposing teams, and I have never seen a grown man get in the face of another grown man and bark. I have seen UGA fans bark at opposing team fans from a distance, I have done it many times myself, but doing so inside of another persons personal space just does not happen often or there would arrest and hospital records that could back it up. It is one thing to bark at people from across the street...or do the Gator Chomp or any other similar thing....its part of the fun of going on the road to support your team....having someone invade your personal space as many people claim happens very often simplly does not happen. Barking at opposing fans 10 feet awat is vastly different that doing so 10 inches from their face...the former is going to happen, the latter never does, at least not as often as folks claim.....

It's dumb, but pretty much every fan base has people who do similar stuff.
I think wearing plastic hats that look like Razorbacks or elephants are dumb and childish. I mean, go down the list and very few college football fans would be accused of being high society.

I've seen horror stories on this board about LSU fans mistreating opposing fans in BR, but I've never once seen anything like that in person.

Two reasons for this:

1. Most bad stories are made up
and/or
2. Poor behavior is usually isolated.

More than once it was within an inch of my ear. They choose their victims carefully. I was solo, with a small beagle, an easy target for a drunk frat guy in a group of 10. That's what keeps the hospital and arrest records down. The trash pick their victims who aren't in a position to do anything about it. They wouldn't have done it if I was in a crowd of other men, other than at a distance which is fine and normal. And if I didn't have a new dog with me there would have been a problem.

Go to the next UGA home game in opposing team colors and walk around alone pregame for a while. You'll find out.

I'm one of the well known biggest UGA homers on this site, why would I lie to make us look bad?

It happens often, and it's trashy.

It’s just part of Athens charm. No reason to shoot someone over.

Why would I, an opposing fan outnumbered by an entire fan base, pick a fight? People don't just get in fights, I am not sure why this is your entire argument.

Yup, on more than one occasion. I don't see why you find this fact so hard to believe. Easily within a 3ft personal space bubble. There are plenty of videos of this barking shite online, a quick google search would find it.

We got stopped as the golf cart with UGA was driving through. People were packed shoulder to shoulder for a minute or two and we got the business. It was a lot, but it wasn't something that is worth "fighting over".

Have been to many games against UGA both home, away, and neutral, and UGA fans are always a good time though. That same Athens trip above, they setup a beer funnel from the second floor of the parking deck near where the UGA bus that rocks comes down. That was fun.

The cloest I have ever actually came to throwing fists was at UF. The visiting student section is right off the 40 yard line, and we were in the first few rows. We lost, and the entire walk up was at a standstill and every single gator fan chomped in our face. "It's a long ride back to Baton Rouge". Think we lost 14-6 after Jarvis fumbled.

Edit to add: I never felt that there was any sort of danger. Like I said above, chalked it up to a wild drunken fan base. You are naïve to think there are plenty of times that fans are not on top of each other. Walking between the street and the barricade, waiting in line to enter the stadium, etc. Plenty of times were people are just naturally close without "getting into someone's face".

Completely agree - I have watched LSU fans aggressively tiger bait kids and chant STTDB. It is part of the pomp and circumstance of college football.

I don’t normally bark, except when we call out the Dawgs. But I will bark my head off if it would drive UTa into the Big 10.

It doesn’t happen. I don’t bark in folks faces and other than a Dawg who was provoked beyond reason by a drunken Vol years ago I’ve never seen it.
I’d take barking over having urine thrown from the upper deck - that was Florida. Two fat guys mooning fans as they left the stadium was Florida too.
Barking is better than having a bunch of drunkenTennessee hillbillies spewing obscenities. It’s better than a drunk LSU fan who somehow got a seat in a season ticket area of Sanford Stadium and puked all over a ladies purse and shoes and then having the nerve to ask her to go out with him.
Or having a child in Baton Rouge throwing rocks at UGA fans and her LSU father thinking it was a good thing.
Or having AU scratched into the side of my new car after UGA beat AU in the 19 second game. Our friend had the same thing happen to him at a restaurant in Knoxville. He saw the rednecks doing it. When my friend, a very large former college linebacker approached them in a very bad mood, they hauled arse like the cowards they were.
There are a lot worse things than barking. And in over 50 years of attending football games I’ve seen plenty and the above are only a sample of what I’ve seen.
So Woof Woof Woof!!!!! Get ready you dimestore cowboys. We are coming. We are gonna be signing horns down and barking like crazy. Especially if that’s all it would take to drive y’all and your delicate feelings out of the SEC.
