This. It's like saying Trent Richardson is a system RB. Makes no sense.
No. Not at all. Mathieu isn't even a DB really. What plays has he made as a DB? Mathieu and Brooks are rovers a system position.

Do you even realize what DB means? That's all the corners, safties, strong safties etc
He isn't a linebacker and sure as Hell not a lineman, unless you have some insider Mel Kiper info

Other than his special teams plays, every single one of his plays has been as a DB because that is the position he plays.
Interception in the end zone against UF? - DB
Interception against A&M in Cotton? - DB
Forced fumble against UF, UNC, A&M, Oregon - DB

Unless he was playing OLB, which is highly unlikely, every big play he has made was made as a DB.
Defensive Backs DO blitz, you do know that?

He's not 'my boy'. I have no dog in this fight, but you make zero sense.

Since you don't have a clue what a DB really is, I think it's impossible to play semantic games with you.
Have you seen any of his INT's? Was he returning punts when this happened?

Now this is what I call a dumb thread.

Maybe so, but that's not his fault. He's still a damn good football player.
All he does is make solid tackles and force turnovers. IF he doesn't meet some fan or some pundit's idea of what a prototypical superstar DB looks like or acts like, it's irrelevant. He's successful when the final whistle blows.

Mathieu Is Purely a System Player
LSU game b/c Mathieu's backup, Ron Brooks, had a pass defended and an interception returned for a touchdown...and pretty much did what Mathieu does.
All of LSU's defensive backs are system players. The man on the right in purple is Ron Brooks. He teaches all of LSU's corners and safeties to play a system known to the Football Enlightened as "Man-to-man" defense.
They all play it well and go on to the NFL.
The few that don't live up to coach Cooper's standards go to Coach Tommy Moffit, gain 30 pounds and play linebacker for The Cheif.
This tidbit is free. Next lesson will cost you.

Have you ever heard of Randall Gay?
He was a back up corner (nickel for the Football Enlightened)at LSU pretty much like Ron Brooks. He played corner, won a BCS Championship ring , got drafted by New England, won a couple of Super Bowls rings with them and lived happily ever after.
I hope the pictures help.

well you haven't watched him at all. He is all over the field and doesn't back down from anyone. He's the one who gave Bama's TE Smelley a stinger & he absolutely cut Williams the other TE who was 7 inches taller & a 100lbs heavier in half.
He took on TR twice. The first time he was deflected off like a flea but forced TR out of bounds when no one else could stop him. Another play TR trucked TM7 and the dude bounced up like a bullet and assisted on the tackle. There is no quit in this kid. If Trent and those big arse TE's can't scare him, no one can. He has no respect for his body. Tyran has great instincts as to when to lay the wood versus trying to force a fumble. His weakness is in a spread offense against a tall/fast WR but that's about it.

Defensive backs, known collectively as the secondary, are the four or five defensive football players that are charged with pass coverage and run support after the pass threat is gone. They are unquestionably the fastest and quickest members of the defensive unit. They have to communicate well with each other as they determine the pass strength of the formation. They have to adjust as the offense runs motion and formation changes to ensure that they're in the best position possible to stop the big pass plays during the game.
