Truly spoken like someone who can read Wikipedia but has no idea about the context of how that season actually went

Regardless, bama has a good basketball team but is overreliant on their shooting, which doesn’t sound like a problem if you’ve only been watching basketball for 15 minutes like most gumps. It will catch up with you very quickly in March.

Not that we’re much better, I expect both of our teams to get bounced pretty early.

LOL college baseball was my life at age 12. We made my grandparents call us and set their phone by the radio for big weekend series that weren't on Fox Sports South or the first wave of CSS.

We lost 2/3 in the regular season and then bashed LSU's brains in in Hoover. Like I said, it'd be like if LSU ran through the SECT and beat us by 30. Even though the season series was 2-1 Bama, the only thing discussed would be the 30 pt SECT game.

We're the #2 best defense in the country. We're currently 14-1 in the SEC moreso because of that than the shooting, which has come and gone over the last 2 months.

Most of us understand that, but we care about basketball.

You guys are bad on defense, so you actually rely on your scoring almost completely. And when it's not there you lose - which is why you have 4 SEC losses and we have 1. Your stretch of bad offense led to blowout losses, our stretch of bad offense led to close wins and a few close losses.

But if you are scoring at your peak, you can run with anyone. Right now you are doing that.

Glad you and your family gathered ‘round the fireplace to hear order restored

Lies, damn lies, and statistics. Both Alabama and LSU will have a game where they score in the high 60’s instead of the low 80’s and when that happens both will be out.

We watched the championship game on CBS like everyone else. The regular season games were the ones that weren't on TV.

Do you remember 1997 brotha?

If your eyes tell you that Alabama and LSU play a similar level of defense then I question that statement.

But either way, LSU is playing good ball right now.

We’ll come back to this thread in a few weeks. Neither team will make it past S16 and even that will take a good draw.

If we end up a 2 seed I feel pretty good about making it to the S16 because of draws. Anything past I'm not so sure about. Will depend on matchups.

LSU could lose a 7/10 game by 17 or catch a heater to the Elite 8. Entirely dependent on their matchup and if they are scoring.

Considering where the programs were when both coaches took over, I would say making it to the Sweet 16 would be a good season for both programs.

Not to derail this thread, but that was on helluva baseball season in ‘97. George, you are my favorite poster on the SECR, but you just made me go double check those games.

I was in Tuscaloosa for that series to finish the season. What a wild weekend. LSU just needed to win 1 to win the regular season title. Doug Thompson got rocked early Friday night, and Skip pulled him in the 2nd or 3rd and told him, “I’m gonna need you to win it for us on Sunday.

Sure enough, Bama wins 6-4 Friday night, then walloped LSU 28-2 on Saturday. In the final game, Thompson comes off the bench and pitches the last 3-4 innings to secure a 6-4 victory and the season title.

In the SEC tourney, LSU beat Bama 12-7 in the first matchup, but Bama won the tourney with a 12-2 arse kicking.

But, when it mattered most, LSU won the 1-game final in the CWS for the title. I’m glad they didn’t have a 3-game championship series back then. LOL

Ehh, having your worst shooting game is looking fine?

Not contesting that Bama is the cream of the SEC, but I agree with the other guy- they aren't playing their best right now.

Okay, but in the grand scheme that’s like making it to the Outback bowl.

Which would be a good bowl for coaches that take over one of the worst programs in the conference.

Honestly yea, with this team. We got great looks all day we just were in a funk. The more concerning thing with them is when our ball movement freezes up and we aren't getting good looks. That's what late January and early February looked like.

Today was just a shitty shooting day all around. Great looks, everybody off. Got lucky it was against a bad team and we could still get a win.

We're definitely not at peak level that we were in mid January, but we won't again in all likelihood.
