They helped Kentucky's economy by importing barrels upon barrels upon barrels of Kentucky bourbon down the Mississippi River. The infamous Bourbom Street subsequently got its name from Kentucky's finest.

Well, if you wanted to do an apocalyptic movie, you'd literally save MILLIONS of $$$ in production costs by filming it 30 miles north of New Orleans..
