i don't even wear a watch anymore and haven't in years because i have this newfangled thing called a cellular telephone which happens to show me the time.
that said, i think it's cute some guys love them- it's your version of accessories. we all like to gild the lily sometimes.

I know that a man wearing a nice watch gives a shite. One who looks at his phone makes me doubt him.

What do you own? Sorry for all the questions. I just like a good watch convo. `
I'm about to head to lunch, but I'll share mine.
My first "real" watch was Brietling Superocean Steelfish. I sold it a few years ago. I'm not a big Brietling fan. 2nd watch was a Tag Carrera (CAR2111.BA0730). Another one I ended up selling. Outside of the Monaco Tag doesn't do it for me either. #3 is a gold Rolex Datejust. Its the watch a wore to my wedding so it has a special place in my heart. #4 was a the green Rolex Sub or "the Hulk". I needed a good sport/dive type watch in my collection since I sold the Superocean. I finally hit the big time with my next one a rose gold JLC master control. Its my baby. Since then I've picked up and sold a Speedy 861 from the 80s & a LE Monaco. Ended up settling and keeping a LE Speedy 50th Anny "Patches". My next target is a Nomos with their own swing system. Nomos is such an awesome brand. I only discovered them a few years ago.
Edit: I also just got passed down a Bulova L2 Squadron and a Bulova Accurtron from my grandfather who recently passed. Not exactly my style, but very meaningful.

Currently and this is just roughing it
Marathon JSAR
Breitling Emergency
Breitling Chrono Avenger M1
Fortis Flieger
Ocean 7 LM-7
Ocean 7 LM-6
Ocean 7 G2 and G2S
Those are the decent watches that I own. I have about 30 other watches like luminox, Citizen nighthawk etc
You should visit this watch forum that I own:

I've never owned a Tag or Rolex. They are just too mainstream for me and that doesn't appeal to me at all. I like wearing the stuff not many people have heard of like Omega Ploprof

That is a big bitch. You won't see that around munch, you are correct. And I feel like my 42mm Speedy is too big at times.
Rolex is an odd situation. Its the "status" watch that everyone knows so everyday D bag that wants a nice watch buys one without appreciating the horology of the brand. However it sticks to its guns. They don't follow trends. They use a 904 steel and fine metals. And have great in house movements.
