Ross Dellenger was on BR radio over the summer. He said that the OLOL investigation as well as the Orgeron impermissible contact was all wrapped up and that there was a decision by the NCAA imminent then the OBJ thing happened and the investigation was extended. LSU desperately wants to keep the football and basketball investigations separate. So, when the basketball case was handed over to the independent board, LSU self imposed penalties for football in an attempt to keep football out of the IARP with basketball.

Ah, interesting strategy, but I’m not sure the NCAA will take the bait in this case. What’s in it for then to quickly close out football?

It's been over a year since the OBJ stuff. I wouldn't consider that quickly considering that the rest of the investigation was supposedly finished.

The prevailing thought amongst the radio hosts (and a lot of Tiger Rant fans) is that Woodward probably discussed the punishment with Emmert at a family dinner or something and that Emmert said they self imposed penalties would be enough for the 3 violations. I'm not sold on that though.

Orgeron also got punished already. If I remember correctly he wasn't allowed to contact any recruit for 30 days. I'm not positive about that though.

Yea, I’m not buying this one. That would be like prime blackmail material for any family that overheard and ever gets mad

Emmert would never get a job again and would probably face life-ruining lawsuits if that got out.

The NCAA might actually disbar LSU or something crazy to save face.

I just don’t think fans that float that theory fully understand the significance of the impropriety they are floating.

Now that the Feds are investigating, Emmett will no longer be able to protect LSU. Optics and politics will force the NCAA to act more appropriately

They're investigating two separate things.

Mack Brown might could explain it to you.

I dont think that the fed investigation is connected to any NCAA stuff. Title IX is a federal law and enforcement/corrective actions are not necessarily NCAA. I got the gist from the article that this is a System wide/student body wide issue that will affect Admin more than athletics. Due to the recent articles it may reach into the Athletic dept.

They are currently two completely separate issues.

The NCAA does have a financial and PR interest in being able to enforce these types of T9-esque issues - as they are trying to get that power back with the Baylor case. There is no evidence of them looking into that for LSU right now.

From my understanding the administration didnt follow up with the allegations. Or do much of anything about them to assure campus safety revolving them

It would be like a parent reporting a teacher of sexually assaulting a student and the school not placing the teacher on leave and making sure things were handled before allowing them to return to work.

Yeah, the people who didn't report it should be the ones who are punished.

Seems criminal.

The Drake Davis assault case will be far more damning for LSU admin than the Guice situation.

It’s really awful that it comes at the expense of some innocent victims who are women, cancer patients, and young athletes who look up to the sleazeball coaches and administrators at that godforsaken, scandal plagued university.

Currently it’s LSU, and the optics are awful especially when you have a HC with a domestic and substance abuse history.

Except those things happened before he was head coach.

They always come back when stuff like this happens. Especially since it seems like the substance abuse is back.

Once again, the parallels with Freeze are similar.

Except Freeze was the head coach when those issues happened.

Those were also issues within the Ole Miss program itself.
