LSU fans, how cool is this that Duplantis and Mangum will be playing MLB on same team?

This board will be fun when it happens. Might not happen right away but when it does it’s going to be exciting. I don’t care much for MLB but for this I will deffinately be watching.

It’s just unreal they got both in the draft. I love it.

I think only one will make it to the majors. Its as if they were like "hey, if we draft both of them, you gotta think one will make it through." Who knows though.

Jake has a lot of talent and you can’t teach speed but he’s basically only a lead off guy in a lineup with his lack of power and he doesn’t walk nearly enough to be an mlb leadoff guy yet. If he gets patient and can work more walks I see him being similar to a Brett Gardner player from the Yankees

hows his arm strength? I feel like that is what separates him from Duplantis, otherwise they are like the same player.

MLB seems to like the HR guys more and more and Duplantis has power. Jake Mangum does not have that power but if you look at his stats, he rarely strikes out. Great eye for an incoming pitch. Seen the guy take 14 pitches and foul off to stay alive and wear down pitchers. I think he makes it because of his speed, base stealing and great outfielder. But like you said, who knows. Would be awesome though.

You say that and I wonder how many games you’ve been to? I’ve seen him throw faster than average and one thing is he can throw on a perfect dime.

Oh and also remember several years ago when we had all those pitching injuries? Remember that? He pitched games and did one hell of a good job. His arm might not throw a bullet but don’t tell me he is weak.

ETA: My point being, in a brutal conference like the SEC, no coach is going to turn to an outfielder to pitch games unless they asked the team has anyone pitched before? And you know the pitching coach tested him in practice and said “Yep, he can throw.”

Have been to several games over his past 4 years and haven’t missed one this season (tv for most). He doesn’t have the arm strength to throw someone out at home. You or no one can tell me he does. Yes he pitched (got a win against ole miss pitching) and yes he locates his throws well but if someone was running home from second on a single jake would not throw them out at home on a major league field.

Also notice I said Average. I never said he had a shite arm. It’s an average arm. He doesn’t have a cannon like a Bellinger or Hicks but he has an average arm and is an above average fielder.

As an LSU fans it's hard not to pull for Mangum. He seems like a good kid who can hit the ball everywhere.

I think it's pretty cool they are teammates at the next level. Hopefully they push each other to achieve more.

I don’t think Duplantis gets to the majors. Great college career, though.

Duplantis won't make it to the pros. I just don't see it. He's really only got 1 tool in that he can hit for average.

As for Mangum, didn't he pitch some his freshman year? I remember him coming in against LSU throwing like 95. He definitely has above average arm strength.

Duplantis played in the toughest college conference and broke an LSU hitting record. As the GM for the Milaukee Brewers said (about Ethan Small) and I can almost quote him. “The Sec is the toughest baseball conference in college ball. If you excell there then you have faced some of the best”

Duplantis will see the MLB’s as will Mangum. Mark it down. It might be a year or two but both will see MLB.

No it was his soph year when we had so many potching injuries that cosch was looking for anyone who could pitch an inining or two.

He was fantastic except and inning where he got roughed up but then, he is an outfieder and tried to help his team.?

That inning ran his ERA up to 6.4 but still, he struck out some big Sec hitters or forced ground ball easy outs. I think the jury on him (even with that bad inning) was an era 1 hit per inning.

Jake's arm is above average on every scouting report. Who exactly are you comparing him to?
