#1 Wanting Mack back as an AD is not the same thing at all as wanting him back as the HC.
Low information Texas fans (of which there are many even you will admit) associate Texas's good years with Brown, and they hope that bringing Brown back will also bring back that mojo.
Hell even really informed Texas fans have watched a pretty good coach objectively (Strong) get in a very bad spot because he can't keep all the Texas stakeholders in line like Mack could. More than one has told me they want him to come back just to take over the hand shaking and baby kissing so Charlie is given room to focus on coaching.
I don't know what that has to do with anything though, I was more commenting that many Texas fans never expected to have a losing season ever again after they ran off Brown and here they are in the middle of a losing season. Things could always be worse.

#2 Les Miles isn't Nick Saban
No one would say that, but Les Miles is easily one of the top 5 coaches the last 15 years. That is hard to replace.

Another thread about LSU by Aggie.
Damn bruh with your melts step away from the keyboard for a few hours.
To answer the OP, no. Hes a lazy. AtM's defense still looks like shite no matter what stats are posted

But is he today? And more importantly is he likely to keep that standard if he were to stay for the next 5-10 years? Because that's what you're really looking at if you're the LSU AD

So? It is easier to win a national title at Arkansas than 85+% of the programs in college football and they only have a shared title.
It is easier to win at Texas, USCw or Michigan than LSU. In fact there are 15 teams on the all time wins list before LSU, and each one of those teams has had a bad coach recently.
quote:
LSU may not be #1 in any of those but it's top 5 or 10 in all of them, which is pretty special
And yet if I tried to say the same thing about A&M you would laugh me off the board (despite the fact that we have better fans than LSU and better facilities).

I think so.
1. Nick Saban
2. Urban Meyer
3. Bob Stoops
4. Jimbo
5. Is where I would put Les

That isn't the question, the question is:
"Who could I replace Les with that certainly would be a top 5 coach the next decade?"
And there is no clear answer. Maybe if Chip was coming back to college football, but someone like USCw or Texas would grab him first...

This is already 7 pages long so IDK why I am wasting my time. I'm assuming this thread has already been derailed a while now. But I'll respond anyway.
Do I miss Chavis? No. I wanted him gone a long time ago. I still think he is a bad coach. You can have a solid defense without being so tentative constantly. A&M loves him because he has taken your defense from horrendous to average. Thats the first step. He is great at solidifying the defense. He plays very basic, simple coverages that rarely lead to coverage busts, but that also don't cause havoc. A&M is lucky right now to have a world class DE, and leave no mistake he disguises alot of Chavis' problems. Chavis philosophy is great when he has awesome pass rushers cause it allows him to be both conservative and still cause havoc.
That being said, I think Steele was a horrendous hire. We had the opportunity to go out and hire both Orgeron (which we did) and perhaps a great up and coming DC from a smaller school. Instead we hired an older DC that is a proven bad coordinator. Its not even like we didn't know how he would do, we knew he would be bad. If we weren't going to go out and hire a proven stud DC at a big school, we needed to hire a talented up and comer plus Orgeron.
Which would I rather have between Steele and Chavis? Chavis
Do I miss Chavis? No.
Its 2 different questions

Even in the ones where the offense was an issue Chavis would just lose it on a last drive by the other team. The dude was the LEAST clutch coach I've seen in a while. He had no clue how to defend a 1 TD or less lead with little time left. It's literally something we just got used to each year his final few years here. It just kept happening over and over and over.
In Chavis's final year at LSU he defended a 1 TD lead like four or five times... A lot of the games ending on INTs. If you don't think LSU's offense is what held it the team back under Chavis's tenure, you're delusional.

Not at all
I miss Jimbo
Chavis is the reason LSU lacks depth on DL

Because you have a little brother mentality with a bleak, Soviet style campus in a Starkville-esque town.

FYI Drac, I appreciate the posts. I have easily traded more words with you than any LSU fan on here at this point. I would offer to buy you a beer, but you would insist on one of those shitty dive places with crappy parking so instead I say "thank you."

Refreshing to see this from a LSU fan, there were couple years that you guys could have won a championship with a better offense. Maybe Chavis wasn't prefect but he wasn't the main issue.

You act like Tuscaloosa, or Norman, or Ann Arbor are these amazing tourist destinations. Most of the top college football programs are based in shitty towns.

Never been to Ann Arbor but Tuscaloosa is a very fun college town, 10 times better than Starkville/CS.
Norman is in the OKC burbs.
Yall also have that weird cultish thing going on.

You mean our propensity to stay after halftime? You know in some parts of the country it isn't that weird.
Ok, we got off track. Thank you again for the actual conversation Drac. If you want to have a bash A&M party I will oblige to some mud throwing, otherwise have a great day and stay dry.
