I don't think LSU needs a rival, but if we had one, I'd hope it'd be with a team that doesn't already have a more legit rivalry with another team. Pretty much rules out all of the SEC, though.

for the authentic coonasses their main rival is probably the letter R

Lsu always played A&M at the beginning of the year so this actually doesn't make much sense, but whatever. I'm happy for the "new" rivalry.

yeah, in a lot of ways I think LSU playing A&M to open the year would be a special game that could get both teams a lot of attention. LSU's forced rivalry with Arkansas was something of a gimmick and I didn't care for the Thursday or Friday games... but it was at least a major television event for both schools.

This probably does more for A&M than anyone - they needed a viable replacement for playing Texas that week and LSU is a great choice for them in that respect.

The people of Houston are going to love this rivalry. So many alumni of both schools in close proximity

I am fine with it as long as its NOT on T-day. It's kind of a bummer for me that I probably won't get to go to another game here in CS because I will be in Louisiana for Thanksgiving, but hey, I got to go to the inaugural SEC one.

I live in Louisiana too. I made it to College Station for tu games.

Spent all morning with the family, ate lunch in the JDP at 11:00 and then drove 4 hours to CS getting there around 3:30 or 4:00 for a 6:00 or 7:00 kickoff

It makes for a fun day. But I am fine with Thursday, Friday or Saturday

I pray LSU does not have to play the A&M little longhorns on Thanksgiving. This would suck. Stadium would be half filled at Tiger Stadium.

What shitty fans you have. A&M set attendance records on thanksgiving day many times.

Priorities, son

SEC memo to the Big 12 needs to be:

Arkansas vs Texas
Missouri vs Kansas

will occur on Thanksgiving week-end or the sugar bowl deal will not be renewed with the acc/nd replacing the big 12 in the sugar bowl and you can go frick yourself if you don't agree.

There is absolutely no desire here in Austin for this game to come back. They care even less about you than we do.

The A&M little longhorn's have only sold out their season tickets twice in the last 12 years and it's not a huge stadium. Yall seat 81,000.

LSU fans >> A&M little longhorn's fans.

3. 88,253 (#12) Texas Nov. 23, 2007
4. 87,555 (#5) Texas Nov. 23, 2001

Looks like about 88,000 to me and 2 of the top 3 were on Thanksgiving Day.

And the demand is there for more seats. I guess you haven't heard in 2014 we'll be seating 109,000 and it'll be sold out

There is really only one key reason why this going to happen.

The SEC Network is essentially nudging this in cooperation with the SEC itself. Everyone is on board with it...and that includes Arkansas albeit if the truth was known, reluctantly so.

It is totally a function of the number of television sets that would be set to the game...the number of eyes watching regardless of whether the game means anything or not.

It has little to with renewing an old rivalry. And it actually has little to do with what LSU and A&M leadership want as well. But it just so happens both schools DO want it.

The SEC (via ESPN's SEC Network) will begin to showcase its teams on Thanksgiving Weekend to compete with the other big games. By institutionally scheduling this game, it works toward that end. This network is actually going to try to compete that weekend with the NFL..to a point.

The Arkansas sports media is already preparing people in that state to 'accept' playing Missouri at the end of the year instead of LSU. Many Arkansas fans right now would rather play LSU as they see that as a better game.

But this all a function of population density and the number of TVs in a given geographical area....and not much more. If Arkansas and Missouri had those attributes of pop density and TVs on that game, then it would be that game being showcased.

The networks will now have even more of a stick in determining many things. Traditional rivalries are now going to be more threatened. But since the SEC owns the content then the league commands a very good deal that will enrich all teams in the league.

Everyone wins. And wins big.

It would be funny if this game happened on T-day just so we could hear LSU fans bitch non-stop about something else.
