I never called him unintelligent or ignorant; I said he was uneducated and (I will now add) unqualified for his field at the time he rose to popularity.

The key word is in bold. This really isn't hard. Take Rush Limbaugh as an example. Never went to college and yet he was THE conservative voice for 30 years. You don't have to be degreed to be qualified or successful. Maybe in engineering you do - but certainly not in many other professions. You can't teach a person to be creative, insightful, and how to end up making 100 million dollars a year because he knows his audience - without being "qualified." Come on - surely you can see this?

Don’t equate being skilled at audience manipulation and pandering with knowledge in a field. There was a lot of snake oil sold as medicine by unqualified salesmen good at selling folks bad products.
I didn’t equate intelligence with formal education. I simply stated he was uneducated in his field (no formal education) and also lacked the first-hand experience in his field (had never worked in the political arena) that would grant him knowledge outside of that education.
He was essentially a college radio station shock jock that hit big by taking controversial stances to attract audience.
