It’s definitely not a risk free move for Kiffin. He famously choked when expectations were high in 2022 and 2024. Expectations will be higher every week at LSU.

I’m primarily coming at this from Kiffin’s point of view. My main argument was that this was a can’t lose situation for LSU but it’s not going as well as Kiffin thought it would.
Kiffin thought:
1) He’d be coaching Ole Miss in the playoffs.
2) He’d get to use that run to build his brand and recruit Ole Miss’s roster and staff.
3) He’d take most of his staff to Baton Rouge. He got more than half and he had to fight like hell for Weiss and Smith.
4) Ole Miss’s playoffs would be a failure without him
5) He’d be able to destroy the program he built on the way out (an annual rival)
6) He wouldn’t be villainized by the media for leaving his team.
7) Friends in Oxford would still like him for some reason???
None of this came to fruition and he’s very publicly in his feelings about it regardless of how rightfully excited LSU people are about the future.

The problem for LSU fans is they spent years making fun of Lane Kiffin. Mocking him as a clown. Calling him a loser. And now suddenly, overnight, they have to embrace him as their savior. It is proving hard on many of them.

My favorite part is how you were on your knees for him during the regular season.
Then you said he was overrated.
But then you said it'd be a miss if LSU didn't hire him.

Weis was not a done deal and Ole Miss made an unsuccessful push to hire him. LSU had to pony up another half million a year to keep him. That’s publicly reported info.

At least this qualifies as factual debate. And you make a good point. With the portal providing him solid, developed players, he was a damn strong DC, and better at Ole Miss than Bama.
Unfortunately for you guys, until Kiffin, it was almost impossible to win a Ole Miss. I feel Kiffin was your once in a lifetime unicorn. Hell, the guy looked, dressed and acted like he had been in Oxford since kindergarten. It was the absolute perfect fit for a coach. In fact, him leaving that "fit" is one of the concerns (albeit a small one) have with Kiffin at LSU. Which is why I will be shocked if Ole Miss doesn't regress to its 25 year mean of 5-7 wins a season with the occasional 9 win outlier. Since the advent of the 12 game schedule, Kiffin is the only coach who won 10 regular season games there. And yall only won 9 games twice in that span without Kiffin.
Maybe Golding can ride Kiffins success for another year or two, but do you honestly believe playoff contention is the new norm in Oxford?
