What’s the story behind that gif?

Apparently the real story is that Aggy does not allow celebrations of any kind on their hallowed, sacred memorial turf.

But they'll have Midnight Yell Practice on the sacred steps of the South Carolina State House.

They were pranking the cadet, watch the full video

Before he pulled the sword one knelt behind him and another pushed him over then he got pissed and pulled the sword

Insert that escalated quickly meme

Amazing no one got hurt, cadet let his pride drive him to a very poor decision

Yes, but why was the cadet on the field in the first place?

The obvious answer is because he was defending the sacred turf of Kyle Field. Those heathens from SMU were disrespecting the memorial.

Does that not strike you as odd?

Are folks arguing about an incident that occurred almost 40 years ago?
What exactly would an appropriate response be? I’m intrigued.
Some of y’all are nuts.

You would think a University that takes such pride in their grass wouldn't have a football field that is brown half the year

Kyle Field thrives on defense. So, pretty blah during the Sumlin years.

Yeah, we're the ones who belong to a cult of sword wielding Code Red following robots who go insane when you do snow angels on their hallowed Astro Turf while the dead mascots view the game on a scoreboard built just for the dead doggies.

I will say that EKG is a shining example of Aggy hospitality though. I would not launch a piss balloon anywhere close to her general direction out of respect.

I would drink so many Bud Light Limes with EKG.

It's not even funny.

So many.

Without a doubt, that cadet (who’s probably about 60 years old now?) was overzealous.
He was one kid, yet the incident is treated by some like it’s some sort of formative, university-sanctioned event in our history.

The Reveilles burial locale is just for fun.
It’s a symbolic way to honor a beloved mascot.
We don’t genuinely believe the deceased pups can view the game.

Thanks for the kind words.
But I would break anyone who piss ballooned me.

Apparently I was misinformed.

Kyle Field is not hallowed, sacred turf after all.

LINK

But some Aggies think it is. I guess it only took one with a sword to start some shite.

I can't hate on you. I've seen far too many examples of you being a genuinely decent person around these parts and that's no easy feat.

And now you have me missing my own dog that we had to put down last December.

I'm heading down to Cali in late November to see REK and his old Front Porch roommate play. Going with an old college buddy of mine who transferred to LSU after drinking his way out of A&M. He's the one who introduced me to REK 24 years ago. Hopefully REK (best Aggy ever?) will help me forget about the dog for a while.

You are gonna draw the Duke of Randy in here if you aren't careful.

'Fellow Aggies have stood behind me, even though I was wrong in what I did,' Hood said Monday between sessions of the hearing that resulted in his suspension.

Late in the second quarter of the Oct. 31 game, following an SMU touchdown, the school's male cheerleaders ran onto the Astroturf to spell out 'SMU.'A&M tradition prohibits visiting cheerleaders from going onto the playing surface.

Hood, the officer of the day and therefore responsible for the general behavior of the Aggie student body, rushed onto the field after the SMU cheerleaders, brandished his saber and thrust it threatenly at one of them. Another SMU cheerleader knocked Hood down before Texas A&M security officers and one Aggie football player stopped the scuffle.

Busted.
Somewhere deep down, I do believe it.

Purely self-serving on my part.
I have far too much for which I have to ask forgiveness each night, without adding “being a jackass on the Internet” to the list.

There are few things worse than losing a best friend.
I assume you’re searching for a new baby ... ?

I have more REK stories than I can share.
I used to go see him live in the early 90s at an old dive in Bryan called 3rd Floor Cantina.
He was Robert Earl Keen, Jr. and the Robert Earl Keen, Jr. Band back then.
No one knew who he was.
The audience was typically about 100 people.

It was the early 80s.

Maybe SMU was playing Devil's Triangle or trying to boof the Aggies.

No one can really be sure.

My wife and daughter are. I know who'll have to walk the dog so I'm much more willing to wait.

Jealous I am.

I've seen him several times, in the late 90s thru 2005. My favorite show was in Ciudad Acuna at the Corona Club. It was before 9/11 and before the border towns were consumed by the drug wars. One of my friends knew the family that owned the club and incidentally the Corona distributorship so we had a great time as their guests. The Bush twins were reportedly at the concert and as I recall it was reported in the Del Rio paper the next day. A few years later, REK wrote a song about his experiences at the Corona Club that pretty well captured the ambiance. It was definitely a cultural experience.

Just thinking about it makes me want a greasy enchilada and a Tecate.

So great.
I’ve seen Roger Creager twice at CC.
Probably my favorite music venue anywhere.

Kyle field has always been a tradition field more so then a loud and crazy atmosphere. They do have some good traditions though that make it a fun place to play ball.
