What years? I played for Joe Wilson at Lowndes, and Joe came to us from the Hyder coaching tree.

I played for Coach Hyder at West Rome. (West and East Rome combined to form Rome High School) Yes. I am ancient.

Gat damn. Yep. That was years before my playing days, for sure.

The spring before he left Coach hyder called the team together after practice and told us that Valdosta was going to start a freshman at QB. He said he never would have thought a freshman would ever start there. The freshman's name? Buck Belue. It took me awhile, but It hit me later on that Coach Hyder already knew he would be going to valdosta.
He was a great man. I could tell you a lot of stories about the people he helped that nobody ever knew about.
ETA
I ended up at another school and I went/graduated somewhere else. Coach Hyder made a difference in my life, though.

I could tell you a few more from his time in Valdosta. Hyder certainly walked it like he talked it, and I never heard any stories of him throwing a cussing tantrum in the locker room.
Now, I was told that he would leave the room and let Joe and the boys take care of that for him, but never heard of him doing it.
Hyder certainly carved a name out for himself in a town where people would have thought it absurd to believe that anyone could ever fill the shoes left by Wright Bazemore....

I never saw anything like that from him, and I don't recall anything from his assistants. I heard a word or two from an assistant, but never directed at a player.

Look at Valdosta High School these days. They shite canned O'brein, and have never really recovered. The old spirit of the Wildcat Tradition died with Hyder in that high school cafeteria, that day.
That Rush Propst ever set foot on that field as HBC is a stain upon that legacy, IMO, of course.

Interesting you said this because I was thinking the exact same thing. They have become so desperate to return to their dominating ways they sunk down to Probst levels.

Listen to a lot of podcasts from the Gator beatwriters, radio. It was a pretty common theme. Most picked you to cover.
