Saban advised to wait for the HC opening rather than being fired with that staff...or something like that.

This is what happened. And it was the correct advice. Amazing that Saban knows what he is doing when it comes to coaching.

Not really. He sounds like a high school coach. This is fine for the locker room, but I don't know why people have to go public with everything that is said in private these days.

Agreed. This is common language you hear in the locker room, before practice by both coaches and players. (most of them, anyway) It's not unusual at all....but it should remain in the locker room.

People who are shocked by the language have never played football or any other sport.

I wonder if Kentucky's players are also soft little bitches that can't handle an emotional speech during an emotional, violent game. Would explain why that team that was so physical and promising looks like hot garbage now.

Not exactly. Spurrier went 11-1 vs Georgia. Put up the most points ever by an opposing team in Athens (Kirby’s first year). Kirby is 4-2. Kirby has a long way to go before he’s even in the same breath.

Lulz at all the potty mouth comments.

I get it's football, but it's also life. Any and every coach in every sport has an express obligation, more than even winning, to build character in those they lead. THAT is the true reason to compete. To find and make better those parts of yourself and your teammates over the course of practices and playing the games that makes one better in the long run. Not fame. Not money. Not championships. The betterment of ones self and one's opponents is the true essence of competition. It goes back to the teaching of Plato and Aristotle, but I would imagine that most on here have never spent 1 second thinking about that.

Could Kirby have given the same speech just as effectively without the language? Yes. Ironically, Kirby talked about discipline, but SHOWED little of it in his language. It's like Jocko Willink says....

Unfortunately, Kirby's language is the language of the lowest common denominator in our society. People will say "oh it's just words" yada, yada, yada or whatever. I'm a firm believer in the 1st amendment and "Freedom of speech." But as I said above, I'm also a big believer in Discipline." While those two thing seem diametrically opposed, they are actually very deeply intertwined. Without discipline, there is not freedom. People say they want the freedom to eat what they want, but don't have the disciple to exercise or to stay away from the cookies, chips or soft drinks. They say they want financial freedom, but don't have the disciple to save or live within their means.

The way you carry yourself matters. It's a subtle thing, and most folks don't get it. But if you set yourself apart in your words and actions, then people will notice. They will start to follow your example. It's a small thing, but it's a big thing. Cleaning up ones language is an easy thing to do and a good place to start. All it takes is discipline.

When I was at the Citadel, we got yelled and screamed at all the time. Eventually, you got numb to it. It was like a bunch of barking dogs (no pun intended). All they did was bark and bark. Occasionally, you'd have the guy that would never raise their voice, but come up to you in a low, almost reserved tone and correct your mistake(s). These were the folks you paid attention to, because you knew they were serious. There was one guy, who was the best natural leader I have ever know that did this all the time. I can only remember him raising his voice to us a couple of times. Not coincidently, he was the first member of his class to become a general and ended up with 3 stars before he retired.

Not saying I'm right, it's just something to think about.

I wasn't shocked by Kirby's language, I was disappointed in it. See the above post.

As a Christian I don't care for that kind of language. I have never used it and I don't ever anticipate using it. I also played for one of the most successful coaches in Georgia High School football history, and he was one of the finest Christian men I have ever known and never used poor language.

That said, it is very common in sports. Not only there, but out in public. I do remember when a man would shut someone up if they were cursing in the presence of a woman. We have gotten away from that, and I think it's a shame.

Our society has become increasingly more coarse over the years.

While I don't care for the language I am never shocked by it, and those (Not you) who claim to be shocked are simple trolls or are very naive if they think their own coaches do not use that kind of language.

DawgsLife,

Thanks for the reply a healthy salute to you sir. I concur with the quoted text 110%. Most of the folks harping on the language in the speech are jealous trolls, and this is coming from a fan of an opposing fanbase that that likes to give grief to other fans bases whenever possible. I think that one can tell from my replies, that ISN'T where I was coming from in my posts on the subject.

If I'm being 100% honest, I can't say that I've never used that language. However, I try to avoid using it as much as possible. Becoming a parent definitely changed my perspective on it. I find that when I'm alone (or watching SC football) is the hardest.

Cheers and have a good day.

Never took your post as a troll. And, I also agree with what you said. In sports people tend to equate toughness with coarseness of language. Some of the toughest people i have ever know did not use that kind of language. It isn't necessary.

You gotta love some of the fake outrage here over bad language in a locker room.. if you didn’t know that bad words were used in most locker rooms in America pro and amateur your an idiot. Most of the fans might not admit it but they would give anything to have Kirby Smart as there coach. And even though I can’t stand the bammers or Saban I’m so glad he learned from the best program and coach. As far as the gayturds go this should add salt to the wound of having a shitty pathetic program. Ftmf. Lol
