I couldn't care less about the return yards. The fact that he is actually viable in the passing game makes him a more complete back.
Both of these guys can run the football. But, RB's are getting the ball on a handoff less than half of the snaps, this is assuming that the back is the only one playing and isn't splitting carries. What they do when they aren't taking a handoff is just as important as being able to competently run it. How well do they pick up a blitz and how well do they factor into the passing game? These are important parts of being a running back.

13 TD's is weak sauce for someone who gets the ball as many different ways as he does.
Not really. I'm assuming they have a bigger back or a FB who is getting touches to poach those tuddies. It's not like this kid is just racking up yards and then getting shut down in the short field.
ETA: Yep, they have a guy averaging 2.7 YPC with 13 TD's on the season. This is where the scores went.

I love how the Bama Reds keep whining about the return yards even though McCaffreu has 300+ more yards from scrimmage than Henry also and still has the stamina to be a very good returner.

What convinced you of that? His 13 TD's or his 1048 mostly useless return yards?
Return yards are useless? Do tell.

Because experiencing having someone from your "team" win it all you wish is for more? You know, kinda like AU fans and NC's.

13? That's like godzillamazing! Give that stud a participation award right now. Four reel.

Apparently all of those awards are of the "big guy running in a straight line through big holes" award

Take away his one 98 yard TD and he averaged 27 yards per return or about 2 yards more than a touchback; inconsequential when you consider that probaby 90% of all kicks can be touchbacks nowadays and also since defense was so piss poor he was returning about 4 kicks a game.

You mean like pass pro? Henry has stood up and pancaked some of the best pass rushers in our league and I'll take that over a pass catcher any day. Bama has plenty of pass catchers. Henry is better than the stanford kid this year and I'll take him over anyone in the backfield.

Derrick Henry is Ron dayne
Ron dayne was a deserved heisman winner. Same as if Henry wins it
But stop yourself if anyone thinks he's some transcendent player at the running back position. He's a big dude who runs straight ahead and trucks smaller college players behind an NFL 4-5 star offensive line
He might end up being a better pro than dayne. If Eddie Lacy has had a couple of decent years, Derrick Henry can. But to think he's a player like an Adrian Peterson is just foolish Crimson colored glasses

As soon as they get someone who is decent at returning kicks, return yards will be the difference maker.

Racking up kick return yards isn't all that impressive really unless you're a real difference maker in that area like Berry, who averaged damn near 40 yards on every one.

Has everyone forgotten DH as a freshman and sophomore.
For example: Both the bowl game against OU and OSU he caught slants and turned them into touchdowns.
Henry can definitely catch the ball, its simply something we haven't asked him to do this year. He is also a fantastic pass blocker. I've seen him make a few mistakes, but almost all were due to him having too much confidence in the O-line to be able to block their man.

Dude, I don't know what you have stuck in your craw, but you may need to chill. You've been in every thread on the subject of Henry/McCaffrey for the past week and a half. Every post is you dogging Henry or Bama fans for defending him. We've had conversations in the past, I know you to be sane and rational. This rhetoric regarding Henry is out of character. Just trying to troll the rant?

In both 2011 and 2012 Bama was horrible in defending kickoffs. Yet those yards never cost us a game.
If McCaffrey wasn't returning them, someone else would. His VOR(valur over replacement) is not the 27yds he averages per return. But probably closer to 3-5 yds per return.
A better measure of explosiveness and ability is punt return yardage, imo. Which you will find convenient when I tell you he only averaged 4.8 yards per punt return. Despite have a long of 67 and only 14 punt returns.
For the record, Kenyan Drake averaged 22 yards a return. He and Damien Harris(19.1) were the only ones with enough to be statistically relevant. McCaffrey should be averaging better than 5yds/return more than Drake for return yards to be the deciding factor on him winning the Heisman.
Return yardage doesn't mean much. Sorry. It just doesn't.
Also, why will you not admit in these threads that the defenses McCaffrey played against in the Pac12 were abysmal? Yes, Henry played AU and aTm, but in the Pac12 over half the conference is as bad, or worse, on D as those two teams.
