I found this article that some of you may want to read. It talks about how that young Whipper-snaper Lane Kiffin up at Tennessee has gone scholarship offer crazy. Id hate to be his assistant coach who has to tell kids they have offered that their offer has been pulled once Tenn gets to the limit of 28 scholarships.

Hard to turn away from a train wreck?

Train wreck is about right.
1 of 2 things happen:
He bombs and gets fired or TN goes back to being TN. It's really no big deal either way.
I just hope if the former happens the next coarch will be a proven winner instead of going all in on 2,7.

Thats the Ed Orgeron approach, he did the same thing at Ole Miss, offered hundreds and hundreds of scholarships.

Thats going to bite him in the arse.
187 offers and only 28 scholarships means he will
have 159 heart broken kids and 318 really pissed off parents. That will cost him.

But what do you tell a 3 or 2 star recruit that you have offered once you have met your allotment? Sorry we arent interested in you any more? I know what Id tell know what i would tell Kiffin if I was that recruit

That seems like a lot, but what about other schools?
I'm guessing Arky has 140 or so out...with only 4-6 in-state. We have a weak recruiting base, at least so we've been told

WOW only 4-6 instate Arky recruits! Is high school football really that bad in ARK? I know there has to be at least that many D-1 recruits in the Little Rock metro area alone.

My guess that there is plenty of talent like there is in most cities. However, talent that can get into college even with lower standards is the issue.

Offers and recruits are different things...We got a 4* corner wanting a Hog offer...Doubt he gets it...committed to Nebraska
Only taking 18-20 this year

I wonder if Kiffen Offered all of these guys thinking he could do the Nutt plan and sign like 50 and send 20 to JUCO or prep school.

You assume that all 187 kids he has offered will decide to go to Tennessee. That's not going to be the case, and I would hazard a guess that a number of them have already committed elsewhere, but Kiffin has offered them scholarships anyway.

I'm wondering how out of the ordinary this really is. They give the numbers for UT but not for anyone else to compare. This is similar to the secondary violations that Kiffin and crew keep committing. He hasn't done anything more than the other schools but we just don't get the press on the other guys. He has offered a large number of schollys, almost 8 times as many as he has room for but who's to say that the majority of those accept? Also, why would you put all your faith into one QB recruit? If he backs out then you're left with nothing. Both the recruit and the team need to have options.
As for the comment about 318 parents...how many kids that play D1 football come from a 2 parent home? I doubt it would be 318 parents
Oh and I don't trust a news article that doesn't do a spell check. In the article he spells Kiffin, K-i-f-f-e-n. Its definitely two i's

I wonder how many offers other SEC schools have given out? Im sure most of the rest have offered fewer than 100 scholarships.
