Solid hire IMO. He’s surrounded by talent, so he should be fine. At least we’re done with Golding’s soft defenses.

Why not just hire Pruitt now?

He ain't walking through that door. The last time Steele was on staff at Bama he almost got into a fight with Kirby before getting embarrassed by OSU's third string QB. There is absolutely no way to spin this as anything but a failure. None.

Only DC in 2019 to hold Burrow and Co to under 35 points.

Alabama has never won a NC with Steele on staff, IIRC

The other day I half jokingly suggested John Chavis but this may well be a worse hire

gumps laughed at au for hiring Steele though and they are supposed to be the best program in college football.

I don't think any are thrilled with it.

Just hope it's a placeholder for Pruitt.

Steele is a decent DC, but not anywhere near what most were expecting.

That said, he's a great deal better than Golding, so there is that.

Golding never gave up 70 points in a bowl game at least. Or tried to fight other coaches before a playoff game.

There are way worse DCs out there than Kevin Steele; Pete Golding being one of them.

This may turn out to be true but you just fired this man to end up with Steele

The hire looks like a down grade

I’m not really sure about the OC hire, but Kevin Steele is a damn good defensive coordinator. He resurrected our defense and with the amount of talent he’ll have at his disposal, they’ll be top notch. I’m kind of sad he’s going there because I know what a damn good coach is.
