I don’t feel like discussing this thread, just wanted to note that you managed to get your intended effect with the responses.

In no way is Kansas a Southeastern state. Missouri is barely considered one of the squad. We don't need to dilute it further.

Kansas has a population of less than 3m and a .57% population growth rate. No thanks

Yeah so go start your own conference. No one wants yall here. You don’t fit culturally and don’t bring anything else

North Carolina
Duke
Kansas
Clemson
FSU
(the last two are iffy cause I doubt Florida or South Carolina would ever be in favor of letting them in)

Just because Fla is a basketball school doesn’t mean the conference wants to become one.

Um..we are an all sports school..do you really want to see how sports we have nattys in? We have 13 different sports with titles.
You have 6..not even half
Zero doubt you are one of the most successful Football programs..but all around..your athletic department is average as can be.

Football is the only one that counts with basketball a distant 2nd

I think they all count but baseball surely does..the others I get..

Um basketball makes a ton of money..it's not very distant. I know historically Alabama is terrible at basketball but just because your program has sucked at it does not mean it is not important.

And reputation is what turns on TV sets.
Maybe so.
I mean, certainly so in some sense. I just don't know what the actual numbers are, or how they're valued by the people who make these decisions. I feel highly confident on those metrics Miami is worth less than OU and Texas, but more than Missouri. I don't have any clue how to value A&M, other than I know they're more valuable than I want to admit.
Where does Miami fit in terms of value compared to North Carolina or Virginia? On the surface I'd say more valuable, but how much does basketball count? How much does overall academic reputation matter? How much does access to a new state matter? How difficult is it to get buy in from Florida? How much does that matter? Mostly, how much does ESPN value these different entities, and how much would it pain them to see these programs go to the Big 10 and Fox instead?
I don't have any answers to any of this. But I also know that people love to spout their opinions based on their own subjective values and pretend like they have some kind of relevance, when they really don't.
But you're right that 20 years of college football dominance put Miami on the map in a way that their entire irrelevance over the rest of college football history doesn't completely erase. I personally absolutely enjoy rooting against Miami in ways that I'm more indifferent about other programs. And I can't stand Cristobal. I enjoy watching him fail. But I don't know how that translates to a dollar figure for a network executive.

Kansas is the anti-South and has no right to join the club. Carpetbagging arses rode into Arkansas between the time we seceded and the time we joined the Confederacy. John Brown started there and I have no use for them.

I agree completely. It's a marriage of convenience. We're taking the SEC money and the prestige of the football conference, the passionate single mindedness of your Walmart greeter fan bases, and in return you have the privilege of being associated with us.
I mean, I didn't choose it. You didn't choose it. But here we are anyway. As Clayton Williams once said, "...it's like rape; if it's inevitable just relax and enjoy it."

It’s all going to be one conference in the end, it won’t stop when the sec/big gobble the acc. It’ll stop after the sec or big absorb the other or merge. Get out in front with the premier brands, so the outcome is either merge or absorb not merge or be absorbed. Unc Clem fsu Miami nd. Kansas bball is big but big for bball is still behind Clem fsu and Miami football, and on par with unc bball(except nc is highly populated, a bigger brand, better cultural/geographic fit). Take any three of Miami fsu Clem nd unc and sec wins realignment which would translate to them calling the shots when D1 inevitably splits into two divisions.

lol there’s no privileges in being associated with yall you idiot. Y’all came to us. The SEC existed before yall and was successful and money generating. Y’all joined us not the other way around you freak

It actually required an invitation.
I just think of us as bonding the rest of you troglodytes in shared hatred. You're welcome!

A&M wasn’t in favor of letting Texas in either. Money drowns out all protests.

It was worse than that. Sankey agreed to do all the negotiations in secret while excluding A&M from the discussions, because the Aggies would gum up the works in the Texas state legislature. So not only did the SEC go over, around, and through A&M protests, they went behind their back to do it.
Then twisted their arms to vote for UT/OU admittance anyway because Sankey wanted the vote to be unanimous.
Brutal.
