Yeah, it's a combination of being a great player and having a hole in the roster. Alabama didn't have a stacked WR class when Amari was a freshman. We were more of a run based team.
Jalen Hurts started at QB as a true freshman, which is unheard of. Tua rode the bench behind him, despite being a more talented QB.
To claim the player filling the spot is a negative is just stupid.
