If the refs hadn't blown the call on the "safety", Stoerner's fumble wouldn't have mattered. Tennessee was down 24-20 with just under 3 minutes left when Arkansas' snapped the ball over the punter's head. He kicked it from the 10 yard line, through the back of the endzone and UT was awarded a Safety.

UT was supposed to be offered a choice...Safety or ball 1/2 the distance to the goal. The proper call (rather than a safety) would have given UT the ball at the Arkansas 5 yard line. Instead, the refs automatically awarded the Safety.

Remember...UT ran the ball 43 yards in just over a minute to win the game anyway..so running it in from the 5 shouldn't have been a problem...and Arkansas' only score in the 2nd half was a field goal early in the 3rd quarter...so it wasn't like they were moving the ball on UT.

It wouldn't have mattered anyhow. The SEC title game would've been 11-1 UT vs 11-1 (or 12-0 if they don't lose to MSU) Arkansas for a spot in the Fiesta Bowl.

They just existed in a time before ESPN tried to convince us every year that teams were the best ever. How are Bama's teams getting better every year?

Ordinary enough to go undefeated. Typical bama insecurity. Worried about a team from nearly 20 years ago

1990 Georgia Tech isn't even the weakest national champion of their respective year.

Colorado undoubtedly the worst national champion not named 1984 BYU.

Lost a game, tied a game, and if not for Fifth Down would have lost another game against Missouri. Also won on a BS phantom clipping penalty in their bowl game.

2010 Auburn is the weakest national champion in SEC history. They survived and escaped so many games. Any other SEC national champion since 1998 beats them by 14+

The 2010 SEC West was arguably the best the division had ever been at that point, and any point since. A ranked 9-4 MSU team that beat the snot out of Michigan finished FIFTH out of the six teams in the division, ahead of an Ole Miss team with a bad record but even they had a potent offense with Masoli.

That 2010 Auburn team wasn't some all time great team, but you are blinded with bias with such a retarded comment as "any other SEC champion beats them by 14+" Such nonsense, I doubt any SEC champion would come close to shutting that offense down and the defense wasn't great but it could make stops when it needed to.

I wouldn't say they were ordinary, but even Tennessee fans have to admit they got lucky as hell on this play:

I always thought they were the fourth best team in the country that year behind Ohio State, Kansas State, and a healthy Florida State team

That Ohio State team was loaded. Won every game by at least 10 points and led Sparty 24-9 in the 3rd quarter in the game they lost. A terrible punt by Sparty hit an Ohio State player running downfield in the back and momentum changed. Oh, and frick Plaxico Burress.

You can say its lucky all you want but Billy Ratliff before the play told Tee Martin to keep his helmet on on the sidelines because he was going to get the ball back. Ratliff then exploded off the ball and knocked either the center or the gaurd back, and Stoerner tripped over his foot. Ratliff then recovered the ball.
