Saban proved in the NFL that there are around 15-20 coaches superior to him.
I think he just realized he couldn't re-build the Miami Dolphins as quickly as he could a college team with the ability to recruit. After having his pick from all of the best players in Louisiana and some of the best Florida, Alabama & Georgia players, he knew college was the place for him.

but it's only a matter of time when Saban, a colossal failure at the NFL, gets eaten alive by a bigger fish. Gruden is that guy if he comes to Tennessee.
He went 15-17 over 2 seasons with a team that was 1-15 before he got there. How is that a "colossal failure?"

#1 recruting classes in college= superior talent advantage at just about every position.
can't have that at a level playing field which is the NFL.

I'm down with John Gruden to Tennessee. It's a win win. Would be nice to have a competitive game with Tennessee again, or on the flip side watch Gruden either A)fail miserably or B)Have success and go all Kiffin on the Vols... Bring on Chucky.

Gruden can't just out coach Saban. He's gonna have to build teams that can even compete to begin with. Will he have the patience for that?

Forgive my ignorance, but what the hell has John Gruden done that warrants this love affair for him?

I've always wondered the same. I think he's like an urban myth, and the longer he stays away, the more his reputation becomes exaggerated.

Rebuilt the Raiders and took Bucs to Super Bowl. Coached Sterling Sharpe, was probably the main reason that Philly was resurging initially with McNabb.

And wasn't he fired from his last coaching job?

he's a super-bowl winning coach. At the time, Gruden was the youngest head coach ever to win a Super Bowl.
also the winningest coach in Buccaneers history.

The biggest myth is his QB prowess. He constantly undermined his QBs and never had a franchise guy that he developed and was overly successful with. People seem to this hes a QB guru that will get 5 *'s and develop them into heisman winners when in all likely hood hell be more likely to end up switching QBs 3-4 times a season

I think Gruden thinks he is better than Saban. I think if he thought anyone questioned that he might go to tenner next year just to prove a point. Gruden kind of seems like that kind of a-hole.

Does Gruden even have a grand total of three years coaching college ball ?

Gruden is out of his damn mind, if he thinks he can come in to the CFB ranks and out coach the best in the biz...
I find that very comical.
