The series is 51-37, so definitely better for Auburn than one might expect. The series was discontinued from 1908-1947, a period during which Alabama won 266 games and Auburn won 196 games. So the margin would almost certainly be larger if they had played during that time.

Auburn also historically did a great job of winning when Alabama was down. They won 6 of the first 7 when football was in its infancy, 5 in a row in the 50s when we sucked with Ears Whitworth, 4 in a row in the late 80s with Curry, and 6 in a row in the early 2000s with Shula (those streaks included other coaches but were mostly the guys I mentioned). So, kudos to them for striking while the iron was hot (no pun intended).

That all time record is actually very respectable considering Alabama is probably the best program in CFB history.

Additionally, Alabama is 39-10 against Auburn when ranked higher. Auburn is 16-7 against Alabama when ranked higher. So, Alabama has actually upset Auburn at a higher rate, we’ve just had less chances.

Look on the bright side… Joel Klatt said Texas was the best HC job in the country and we hired a recovering alcoholic. How much worse can it get than that?

Former QB at Colorado whose name to fame is getting destroyed 70-3 by a Vince Young led Texas team in the Big 12 CCG

It also shows that Klatt has bad judgment because Texas, though in many respects a good job, is hardly the best HC job in the country. They have great recruiting grounds, good history and a lot of money, but much of that is offset by significant and arrogant booster interference. It was a primary reason Saban turned them down twice.

AU is a good job but it does have some obstacles, one of which they could remedy immediately - it’s that as a program they are obsessed with Alabama. Not just fans and boosters but the administration. Even in the educational sphere. They should forget Alabama and simply focus their efforts on getting better.

Former AD David Housel, who was one of the worst, realized it later in his career and encouraged the AU faithful, in one of his “talks”, to give up their focus on Alabama. Yet many of them still try to deny it.
