Every great coach has a team that frustrates them. Tom Osborne was 2-6 against FSU. Bowden couldn't beat Miami with any regularity. Sprurrier had a losing record to bowden. Bear struggled with Notre Dame.

Joe Pa, as a head coach, is 4-8 against Alabama. He was 0-4 against Bear. But I didn't realize until yesterday that he was 0-3 vs Bill Curry. This post is NOT an indictment of Joe Pa, one of the greatest of all time. I just thought it was interesting.

Bryant also could never beat Texas, at least when he coached for Bama.

Bill Curry fielded good teams, he just couldn't beat Auburn.

Spurrier was 1-2 versus Mike DuBose.

Bill Curry fielded one good team, his last. Ray Perkins was worse.

Dynamite analysis.

I guess that doesn't say anything positive for Joe Pa that he has hired such good assistants that they can win the 5th most games amongst BCS schools in the past 5 years. Even without his clueless help!

Joe Pa vs. Lloyd Carr was the biggest hammer-nail "rivalry" I've ever seen.

Carr owned Paterno, 9-2.

Way under-rated as a coach imo. The OSU loses just stacked up on him.

I think he lost the last 4 or 5 in a row. I always though Carr was very good though. Put a great team on the field most years and a ton of guys in the pros.
