The roads froze so suddenly I don't think having crews here would have mattered much. They literally froze solid in a span of 20 minutes, and didn't really start melting until 24 hours later. And that 20 minute span was the precise moment most everyone got in their cars to go get their kids from school, or head home after places closed. In retrospect, even with the forecasted dusting, the road conditions should have been predictable as we were on the 4th or 5th straight day of below freezing temps. I think they were caught off guard by how quickly they froze. Generally the traffic on the roads keeps them from freezing too quickly.
I made it a block and after seeing the 5th car slide off the road, turned around and went back to the office.

Yeah, I forgot that it we were below freezing for 3-5 days in a row. It makes our point about having a more cautious forecast even more valid.

We weren't just below freezing, the Temps were in the teens.
What was missed was the precipitation line.
The forecasts all called for just cloudy skies in Birmingham with a chance of snow and ice in Montgomery. So they bombed that by 100 miles.
Fast forward to this past winter, the forecast for snow and ice ,even at noon and forecast to start snowing within the hour, was for a number of inches of snow in Birmingham. It never really snowed at all.
To me, this was more of a miss from actual, but obviously the lack of snow doesn't cause the issues when the forecast misses on the short side.
