re: It has "become common" for recruits to ask for $5,000 merely to visit a school’s campus.

Kids with talent have always made more than adults with no talents. that is capitalism.

Is the NFL communist? The MLB doesn’t have a salary cap but they have restrictions on free agency and an initial entry draft.

They have labor unions. Those deals are negotiated by the athletes and the owners. The idea that the government should simply enforce a system on an otherwise free group of citizens is FAR more akin to 'communist' than anything the NFL/MLB/NHL/etc... pro sports have got going.

So do successful child actors and other entertainers. Never heard any calls to restrain 13 year old youtubers, that can dance a bit and hold a tune, from making their coin. But when it suddenly affects 'our traditional way of life', we need the government to step in. Oh brother.

The top NIL earners according to On3:

Brony James @ 6.1mil
Shedeur Sanders @ 5.1mil
Livvy Dunn @ 3.2 mil
Arch Manning @ 2.9mil
Caleb Williams @ 2.6 mil

So on the top 5, 3 of them are kids of incredibly famous sports stars. 1 is a gymnastics.

Does anyone think the top 4 picked their schools because that's who offered the most NIL? Sanders was making close to that at Jackson State.

Drake Maye is listed at 1.5mil. Bryce Young made more than that. Do you think Bama couldn't throw more money at Maye to get him to transfer from UNC?

Most NIL arguments are nothing more than straw man because fans are upset because their not winning all the time.

Alabama is having more trouble with misses on OL evaluation and staff turnover finally catching up, not NIL.

Georgia has won the last two titles barely taking any transfers from the portal and without athlete in the top 10 of NIL.

It isn't ruining college football. If anything is, it's television deals killing tradition.
