I mean, the Aggy meltdown wasn't exactly a surprise. Feels like they're just wired to choke the way they did. Feel more cultural to me.

Put pretty much anyone in Sumlin's place and does the outcome really change?

I feel like there is a correlation between a player dancing on the sideline with a mace and blowing a 34 point lead

It is 100% a product of their culture.

They have been doing this exact same thing for decades. Not even joking.

Let's ask an individual who served in the Old Guard and was in the Pentagon when September 11th happened and then played linebacker from 2006-2007 at A&M:

quote:

LB Mark Dodge: "I'm embarrassed. I feel for the players. The culture of "swag" that has been created around the A&M program is driving the play and decision making across the board. When successful, the team and coaches are great. But in adversity, the team can't dig out and get back into it. The old saying, "Act like you've been there before," goes a long way. Keeps people focused and even keel. Without that emotions run too high and too low with no middle ground. This is a culture issue, players and coaches playing & working hard but built on a foundation of over-confidence and emotion. This is and has been our program under Coach Sumlin. We shouldn't be surprised."

It's culture. Stubborn coaches that have created a culture of entitlement. Sure, they are confident when winning. However, when they get hit they fall over like a bunch of pussies.

How? LSU has had some atrocious decades, but they're still able to come back and be a powerhouse. What 'culture' do you ascribe to them? 'A culture of losing' isn't an informative answer. UF had one of those and became world-class for many years. TAMU is about as passionate about football as any SEC program not named LSU/Bama/Auburn/Tennessee. I should probably throw in the Razorbacks and UGA too. But that collapse wasn't about 'culture.' Neither Sumlin nor the players have that much of a history with the program. Sumlin is from Alabama and played at...some B10 school, and the players are just kids.

LSU had a culture of low expectations before Saban came.

Saban had to deal with a culture of worshiping the Bear at Bama. He had to say the Bear is dead and they need to realize it. They were screwing themselves by always wanting one of their own.

It's the culture that Kevin Sumlin has created here. Non chalant practices, kidding around, just not putting in the 100% effort. It just seems like the players don't have a lot of pressure, especially the ones preferred by the coaching staff.

This game was a snap shot of what Aggies have endured since 2014.

He was in the Pentagon five years before college? And what does being in the Pentagon on 9/11 have to do with his credibility on the issue?

Dude, I have been watching those guys play football for more than 30 years and it is 100% culture. And it extends back past Sumlin too. They have ALWAYS been able to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. It is literally the main reason people in Arkansas, and Texas, make fun of them. The homo thing actually comes second.

Texas A&M ALWAYS ONE HUNDRED PERCENT OF THE TIME underachieves. Sumlin has created a weird culture there. The swag thing that former player spoke of, but beyond that, their larger culture drove them to hire that drunk in the first place. They tried to make their image more hip by hiring a "hip" coach and it bit them in the arse. Like it always does. Their last coach did the exact same shite. It got him fired too.

Yes. Mark Dodge was 28 when he played at A&M. He went to college after leaving the military.

A lot of people at A&M think that just because you serve, it means you are a God. This is obviously false. Just a general comment, but I agree 100% with Dodge. I liked watching him play my freshman year.

Do you not have a clue of the selection process for being in the Old Guard? To be selected for the Old Guard as an E5 is impressive in its own right.

No, I don't, and honestly don't really care. Good for him, just found it weird that it needed to be mentioned as if to validate his statement. His statement is 100% spot on though.

Yep. Everyone loses. LSU has had its fair share of losses but we aren't mentally weak. With the game on the line or something meaningful to play for, LSU will pull through adversity more than we won't. Same holds true for other winning programs that invest in football which A&M does extensively.

But you can count on A&M to blow it nine out of 10 times. Points to something deeper and foundational.
