The 3 main wide receivers (and yes Cobi Hamilton seems good) are gone after this year

Knile Davis is probably gone, Bequette gone, Stadther gone, Franklin gone, Jerico Nelson gone, Tramain Thomas gone, Isaac Madison, etc.
I think Knile will come back. If our offense works out like I think it will, he will be splitting some time with Dennis Johnson which IMO will cut down on his yards.
Bequette will be a loss for sure, but Chris Smith will be a good one for us. He should get a lot of time this year. Stadther only started his freshman year. We will have back Jones, Jones, Hodge, Thomas, and a few others on the interior. We have recruited fairly well on the Dline IMO. Nelson will no doubt be a big loss. I am looking forward to seeing how Ross Rasner performs this year, as he will likely be his replacement at OLB.

I agree we will lose some talent, but what we are being knocked for this year, will likely be damn good next year and that is our offensive line. One senior in that group. I am excited about how those guys develope.

he was suspended in the spring but don't think he got booted. he had a joint and Crowne Royal, doesn't constitute being booted IMO considering it's his first offense.

You're welcome. But you'll probably beat Oregon so I say keep the tickets.
Hawgeye, do you think Arkansas has a better chance this year? Granted its long-term speculation but what's the point of the offseason but to speculate and talk about Auburn's impending doom (and ours unfortunately).

I think our offense will still be pretty good next year but our defense will be in rebuilding mode...hard to replace all those seniors. I think we could still go bowling though

I'm not sure there's any question you'll go bowling in 2012. Long range speculation or not, Petrino's building a good program.

in that case
thought he was gone after the arrest before the spring game.

Replacing starting QB and 3 OL doesn't seem like a good formula for a NC (as if there were such a thing as a NC in college football).
Posted on 7/31/11 at 8:41 pm to SLC
At least we are replacing them with talent. If those guys get it together by the Bama game then we will be a strong team this year.

I thought it was just two OL's? Even so I already thought offensive line issues might be the problem for Arkansas this year.

not sure what kind of OL turnover they had but Tee Martin and JaMarcus Russell were replacements.

It's 3, but one of those that we lost was Ray "False Start" Dominguez, so him being replaced may be an upgrade.

The talent is there for it to happen this year, I agree with you. I also agree with a poster in this thread that Arkansas will likely only have to go 1-1 against Bama & LSU to have a shot at a SEC & NT.
You had valid points at WR and what we lose, but that is likely the deepest position we have on the team.
Your points about losing Bequette is legit as well, but that will be all we lose on our dline. We are pretty deep and talented at all those spots. Some names to keep an eye on this year for key contributions that will be back next year are DE Chris Smith, CB Jerry Mitchell, CB Darius Winston, LB Tyler Gilbert, LB Terrell Williams, S Eric Bennett. NT Robert Thomas.
I think the thing that will separate the Petrino teams from the former coaches teams is that he has not recruited for just one season. He has stacked the offense with talent on the Oline, QB, RB, WR, & TE. While continuing to add to the depth on the defensive front 7. My main concern going on in to 2012 and 2013 is the defensive backfield. We have had some attrition there. We are junior and senior heavy besides Bennett & Mitchell.
I think the difference with Petrino will be that a down year for us will be 7-9 wins, where before it was a losing season.
Some may call me a homer for that opinion, but the depth Petrino has been able to build here in 4 short years leads me to believe that.

Go ahead and bash me it you want to... but, Arkansas is getting into position to where any year could be 'their' year. The coaching is excellent, the talent level is increasing, and in particular, the quality of depth is much better.
Am I saying we are going to win out every year? No, the SEC is too tough for that. What I am saying though is that we should be in serious contention every year, not every 4 or 5 years like under the previous regime.

Even though I'm not picking Arkansas to win the SEC this year, I agree with this:
"I think the difference with Petrino will be that a down year for us will be 7-9 wins, where before it was a losing season."
My quote button isn't working for some reason.

We replace 3 starters from a year ago.
The misconception lies with people assuming we have no experience returning. Arkansas will have one true inexperienced Oline spot this year. Swanson & Bailey were FR All Americans a year ago, Grant Cook was a FR All SEC selection and was a pre season SEC selection this year. Grant Freeman has started quite a few games in his career and he is a senior, so he should be able to step in to that "leadership" role hopefully. Peackock, Stringer, or Brey Cook will be the only inexperience we have on the Oline.
Petrino has stated that he feels this line is more talented than the line he had a year ago.
