I don't understand why Texas sucks so bad. Hell, they got oil money.
You ever heard of a lottery winner being broke in 2 years after winning $100mm? Or professional athletes being broke when they earn millions while playing? Money can not get you out of stupid decisions. They were years late getting rid of Brown and they fell for the shiny new winning look of Charlie Strong at Louisville. We'll see how the Houston guy does but I am not sold on him yet. Hell, Sumlin lit up the score board at Houston. Look at him, now.

I kinda feel the same about Herman. Dude can win some big games, but he also drops games you figure he is going to win for sure.

Kinda like our damn coach.

Also, the other thing that would concern me about Herman if I were a Texas fan is that he seems to be too much of a player's coach. Everyone remember when he went and got his grill did because his team won a game? That's frickin weird.

Then again, he DID come up under Urban Meyer. Maybe the last decade of mediocrity has made the Texas fans desperate enough for relevancy that they are ready to throw principle to the wind.

No disrespect or anything but Arkansas is similar like State. There is only so much you can do. The best thing a coach can do at program like State is recruit the best you can and develop. Hopefully, you can get guys to stay 4 years. It took Mullen 5 years to get to #1 and a NY6 bowl. 2018 will be the next opportunity to get back to the year they had in 2014. A senior led team.

Oh, absolutely.
I don't expect a championship in football ever. I hope like hell we will get one every year, but I understand full well that Arkansas is SOL for a variety of reasons.

I expect much more from our basketball program.

In any event, this isn't about Arkansas, and frick Ole Miss.

I only started talking about Texas because that Texas fan is here. frick Texas too.

How so? Arkansas is the only D1 in the state; we have 3. We have the best football players per capita as any state in the country. Our best players don't go to OM, MSU or Southern Miss. They get poached by Florida, Alabama, FSU, and LSU. Arkansas has limited high school talent. You dumb!

Arkansas has two division one programs, actually. Not power 5, granted, but two division one programs.

Either way, your point is taken. Arkansas has a better way of it than either Miss school, and this bears out in average recruiting rankings.

But still not quite good enough.

I'm not going to call dumb or anything. There are 3 D1 Schools. 2 are P5. Southern really doesn't steal top recruits from us. Sure, they get 3* athletes that might get recruited by State but big names? No. I know Mississippi is at the top as far as per capita. I can name one that went to FSU this past signing but overall idk. I have to research that. What I meant about Arkansas is that neither one of us is going to win a championship in the near future or ever.

Your Safeties coach would be a hint. But, since we have never won one and Arkansas has a disputed one in 64, you get the Captain Obvious award.

Spot on with the Brown take.. Mack talked his way into three more years than he deserved and it killed the program.

Texas started at the top and worked down to Strong, even as a fan I'm good with that. Who knew his gameday IQ was room temp, great guy but just didn't have it.

Warming up quickly to Herman, we'll see about gameday and X/O's, but he's been A+ so far

He's gotten the admin motivated, Texas admin places athletics far down the list of priorities.. Herman has moved mountains in a very short period of time in that regards.

Alabama is good at football. End of story.

Nick Saban is a great coach. Alabama lucked into getting him because their job happened to be open when he made the somewhat surprising decision to jump from NFL back into college coaching after only two years. Hell, if Rich Rodriguez hadn't backed out at the last minute, Saban would be coaching somewhere else right now, maybe West Virginia since he is originally from there. Wouldn't it be funny if he had gone to West Virginia and done the same thing there he's done at Alabama? They might have been invited to the SEC in 2012 instead of Mizzou.

Almost every school makes this mistake with a coach who has had past success. LSU did it with Les Miles and earlier with Charles McClendon, Florida State did it with Bowden, Michigan did it with Carr, Georgia did it with Richt, Tennessee did it with Fulmer, etc.

You really just don't understand this at all, no small market team is ever getting an invite.

Oklahoma probably would have if they had asked, because they are a powerhouse. If WVU was in the sixth year of Nick Saban with two national championships under their belts when the SEC went shopping, they might have been a reasonable target.

Also, WVU is not that much of a small market team. While the state itself doesn't have that many people, they are very close to, and have a decent following in, some pretty sizable markets in Ohio, Pennsylvania, Maryland, DC, etc.

I am. His offense is a duplicate of Meyer and Mullen. When he gets his QB, they will be good b/c of Big 12 play. He got the most out of his defenses at Houston. I think we got lucky he didn't end up at LSU.

the only dumb thing I've seen from him is starting beef with a local sports broadcaster.

WVU already tried the SEC and ACC, rejected by both. They don't bring anything to the table. Their academics aren't desirable, and their market is shite. Old news.

It is now clear you really do not understand the drivers of expansion and why who gets an invite.

Neither WV nor OK will be getting any invite, it has zero to do with being a "powerhouse", it is all about the number of in state TV sets.

This is the reason TX is out of the picture as well, we are already getting paid for that market.

Take out your map and look for the most populous states bordering the SEC, this is where expansion will occur.

We get paid a set fee for in state tv subscribers in the state which has a team, and that is what drives expansion.

So basically about half the SEC?

By saying the NCAA doent touch these schools shows you are young. Auburn was one of the most NCAA sactioned teams in the 90'S. Alabama got wacked as well.

There will always be athletes that accept something they are not supposed to, it comes with being a young new celebrity. A school can try to do everything right and a booster can still screw it up.
That being said. What happened in Ole Miss looks like coaching staff, specifically the head coach involved in cheating which the NCAA will not overlook.

This is not a coach overlooking something or being willfully ignorant to his players conduct, but being an active participant.
