The difference in the 2 sports plays a part sure, but next year for instance there are legitimately 10 different baseball teams from the SEC that could win a title, football maybe 4 from the SEC and that’s really stretching it.
There are 64 spots in the baseball tournament. Has the SEC had more than 10 of those ever? At best in football there have never been more than 4 spots open to win a natty. 64 in baseball, theoretically, 4 in football. Several times the SEC has had 50% of the spots eligible to win a natty in football....there ain't enough teams in the SEC to have 50% of the spots in baseball. Even with 10 teams in thats less than 16% of the slots.

Six programs for baseball versus five for football in the last twenty years.. not that far apart
When you consider that those 6 baseball natty winners had 64 spots open every year while those 5 football natty winners had, at best 4 and only 2 at times the football dominance is more impressive even without Alabama's incredible run. You gotta get in the tournament in Baseball to win it. There are 64 spots. The same is true in football...at best there have been 4 spots.

Impressive run by the SEC.
Similar, but different.
Final 1971 AP College Football Poll; Big 8 sweep at the top
1) Nebraska 13-0
2) Oklahoma 11-1
3) Colorado 10-2
4) Alabama 11-1
5) Penn State 11-1
6) Michigan 11-1
7) Georgia 11-1
8) Arizona State 11-1

From 2006-2012, an SEC school won every BCS Championship Game.

The correct footnote would be.

Both the AP and Coaches Poll had USC #1, LSU #2, and Oklahoma #3, yet the computers had Oklahoma #1 and USC #4, which put Oklahoma at #1 in the BCS poll

The PAC-10 (or so) in general, and USC in particular, says “Hi”.

The Arizona schools were not part of the PAC at that time.
