In my lifetime, it has always been more of a rivalry to Ole Miss than to LSU. It certainly is now, since Lane got them on track, and then left them at the alter... Like a jilted lover, an ex-girlfriend.. Look at it from LSU fan's POV.. LSU has 3 NCS since 2000. Played in 4 games. Ole Miss has never even played in the SECCG. Coaches don't leave LSU to go to Ole Miss. We are not the same.
Lane left for a better job. LSU is a bigger school, with a bigger budget, stadium, fan base.. A better recruiting base, a better athletic dept, etc.

The two programs went in opposite directions with LSU winning 3 titles and Ole Miss never even making it to Atlanta. But yeah.
