I was gonna say no b/c there have been some really great football players play high school ball in Texas. But, I think that the vast majority of Texas players get bumped b/c they are from Texas.

Definitely on to something here. Yeah the Top 100 in state are really good but once you get past that you get a lot of kids getting ratings bumps simply because they play for *insert big name Texas high school here*

This is particularly true for defensive players, who are the most overrated of all out of the state. Again, maybe not so much at the top but there are more 5*/4* flop DL/LB in Texas than anywhere else.

Why would those kids not want to go to the flagship university that has all the money?

Ask the kids. The question wasn't about UT, it was about the UIL talent.

Are they going to UT or elsewhere?

And if they’re going elsewhere, are they going to other Texas Universities?

And if they’re going to other Texas Universities, and the other Texas schools are not that good... Is Texas High School Football overrated?

If they’re leaving the State of Texas, is Texas in general overrated?

Is their BBQ even very good?

Is everything REALLY bigger in Texas?

I’m starting to have my doubts

It’s better than the college equivalent in Texas.

I've been to a few HS games here over the years. It's real in the sense there's a lot of big programs/weekly large events. Alot of small towns/suburbs where it's a weekend attraction for most

I wouldn’t say Texas High School recruits are over rated but you really need recruits from Southeastern states to put you at the top. Florida is especially critical. California is huge as well

Teaxas HS players are peaking in high school. That is why. They work their players so much growing up from an early age they are fully tapped out

They don't peak in HS. They don't get developed beyond HS is much more the case, especially at texsa. Was a big problem under Hermanus.

7v7 changed the game a lot here. A lot for finesse football focused on offense vs. The old days of smashmouth offense & defense.

7v7 happens nationwide. Spread offenses are played nationwide. Those two old boogeymen aren't the problem.

They have maxed their potential out. They may be a 4 or 5 star but they aren’t gonna improve much from where they sit coming out of HS.

Vs an athlete from MS or GA who has a ton more upside to develop.

I’ve always heard about how great Texas High School Football is. How they have 10,000 people at the games. How HS football is a way of life there...

Wife is from upstate NY. Took her to see PNG (Port Neches Groves Indians) in playoffs at the Astrodome. We sat in 4th level endzone. Astrodome was packed. PNG has a 9 year waiting list for season tickets. In small towns it is a way of life. In Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, etc... not so much.

Son.......we've been playing with TX kids for multiple decades. That's a TX kid in my avatar. Don't tell me what they are.

Seems to me that either Texas High School Football is overrated

OR Texas as a State is overrated and the good recruits just don’t want to stay there

Which one is it?

Enjoy that piece of shite conference and watching yourself get boxed out of Texas because of those trash football games.

Oh you mean like the Cotton Bowl in the College Football Playoff where we beat Notre Dame by 4 Touchdowns then beat Alabama by 4 TD’s? (No offense Bama fans, I respect y’all)

Those kind of trash football games?

Only way we’re boxed out of Texas is if the Cotton Bowl isn’t in the Playoff rotation that year

You’re trying way too hard.

Texas HSFB is goat. I know per capita it doesn’t produce the top amount of talent, but it’s still among the best, and the atmosphere pushes it to number 1.

4 of the last 10 Heisman winners played HS in Texas.

10 first round picks over the last two years.

Texas HSFB has stocked many schools outside of the state:

Hurts and Waddle at Bama
Lamichael James and Darron Thomas at Oregon
Barrett and Dobbins at Ohio State

Some NFL stars at skill positions:

Eric Dickerson
Tomlinson
Earl Campbell
Adrian Peterson
Brees
Mahomes
Luck
Stafford

I could go on.

The numbers don’t lie. If you’ve been to a big playoff game between 6A powers or a small school battle with Mart, Carthage, etc. You’d come away entertained.

Per capita TX players for sure max out early compared to Southeastern players

And they are probably a little on the soft side playing at Cush high schools

You are admittedly biased.

And people aren't saying they aren't good. Just that many of your sub-elite kids are overrated just because they play in Texas. And they are. That's not an opinion; the numbers bear that out.
