I have no love for the shorthorns but if I were forced to choose they would be the lesser of two evils.

If anything it's this whole state.
I dont like the food here, the music, the weather, the people, and I can definitely do without everybody going on and on about the "great state of Texas." I'm just here temporarily while Ms. DS gets through grad school.

Well this thread has been derailed a solid 3 or 4 times. From military history to oppression of minorities and homosexuals

New Orleans
Baton Rouge
Lafayette

In that order

Don't switch this to a Texas vs LA thing.

I don't really like Texas either. mainly due to a few encounters with fellas who thought they were badasses because they were from Texas.

Clearly not always the case, but Texas pride in general is annoying.

I prefer Nashville where the people are friendly and just like to listen to music and have a good time.

I'd rather be in New Orleans than Austin. Those or two cities are meh. Baton Rouge is too crime ridden and Lafayette is too small.

So bitter

Sorry you're miserable. If it's any consolation, I can't wait for you to get the hell outta my home state, too, so we have that in common

I lived in BR for 25 years and never once had anything happen.

Within 2 months of moving to Austin someone broke into Ms. DS's car in Hyde Park

I don't blame you one damn bit. I wouldn't want to live in ATX either.
Best of luck to your wife. For your sake, may she finish sooner, rather than later.
(as someone who finished a PhD recently, I'd advise her to write towards her dissertation daily ... otherwise, it'll quickly become lost amongst life's other distractions)

I'm not. What kind of person can't have fun in Texas? I can have a good time in coonassville, he can figure it out. Some people are just haters.

Austin is "ok", at least most everything south of 51st street is.

The rest of Texas is either an overgrown strip mall of Texas Chainsaw Massacre country. No thanks.

Texas itself is great. Lots to do.

It's the Texas pride Billy bad arse at 3 am that wants to talk shite because he automatically thinks he can whip your arse because he's from Texas.

Sumlin has been lucky in being at the right place at the right time. His success has been do to Holgorsen, Keenum and Manziel. He's always had the great OC/QB.
