Not a troll. Serious offseason discussion.

I think they are for one obvious reason. Basketball.

Without the wildcats, we are a pathetic group of rejects in a major men’s sport.

Yes, Alabama gives the conference the most prestige in the most important sport (football) but look at all the teams that have and could have won plenty of national titles in football even if Alabama was in another conference.

But if Kentucky was in the ACC, we would just suck worse in basketball and have nothing to show for it.

Agree or disagree?

I would say A&M. Basically they pay everyone to beat their arse in every sport.

are you stupid?

lsu and florida just played in the cws; alabama just won a national championship in football; basketball is yet to be determined and looks like a few top members will make a deep run in the tournament this year

Did not win a natty in roundball until 2005.

I am talking about superpower status.

That excludes Florida. (My tigers too)

Honest answer is probably Florida. Best all around school for acedimics and sports.

Auburn is second only to Tennessee as being the biggest shitshow drain on conference revenue among the "Big 6".

What do you think about that?

Each of the founding members is important. But, we bring tFear in basketball and the prestige. Other schools may want to laugh at the SEC in basketball, but when they play us they shite themselves a little (except when Cal fricks up)

I started to think about it, and the only thing that came to mind was 1980.

Alabama, Florida, LSU, and Georgia are the four most important members. Bama for football. The other three for all around sports programs, including football.

Not most important, but in top half. UK with basketball and Vandy with Academics contribute much more to the conference than useless schools like Arkansas, Texas A&M, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, USCe, Auburn etc

Yes. We are the buffer between you and the Mason-Dixon Line. We are the last line of defense between you and people who eat things like chili with chocolate or cinnamon in it. Between you and people who think Nick couldn’t hold Woody’s jockstrap (mostly because Woody is choking some opposing player with it). Between you and people who enjoy the damn snow for Christ’s sake! You may like to kid yourself that it isn’t true, that we aren’t the most important school in the conference but you don't want the truth because deep down in places you don't talk about at parties, you want us on that wall. You need us on that wall. We use letters like C, A, T, S. We use these letters as the backbone of a life spent defending something. You use them as a punchline. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a fan base that rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very freedom that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it! I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way!

It's UF.

Best overall athletic program and absolutely dominant on the women's side.
Only program to win a natty in the big three over the past 20 years.
Good academics.
Don't have the endowment like A&M but has been fiscally savy for decades and always in position to make moves when needed.

The question is, why isn't it A&M?
