Is it really true that 10 of Bamas 13 claimed NC are split titles?

That is what a writer in the Birmingham News stated. I knew there were some bogus ones like where Bama was ranked 20th in one poll but NC in another. But I didnt know they had only half of 10 of the 13 they claim. Interesting.

There's a bunch... 10 seems high but could be right. I'm pretty sure that none of their pre Bryant championships were unanimous. And off top of my head I also know that their 73' and 78' titles are also split. Ironically, they lost to the other title winner in both of those seasons.

No denying that Bama's history is second to none, but their fans use of 13 is laughable. Credit where credit is due, they have 6 to 8 very credible NC. I say 6 if you want to really be prickish about it, but 8 is the number if you ask me. That alone is pretty damn sweet.

Yah you're probably right.. it's the same thing like someone else claiming the NC some of the years they won it.. more than 3 of their NC's are legit but some other stupid school probably claimed some of the years that Bama won outright, just like they did for a few of their questionable ones.

When you go back to the days before the AP and UPI, you have several teams claiming titles for the same season. I don't think it matters in the whole scheme of things. It was a long time ago.

It is not correct. I'm sure he considers all the pre-AP era as split. No problem with that.
'09,'92,'78,'64,'61 , were all unanimous.
Using his criteria, all of LSU's titles are considered split.
I personally have no problem with any or all of Bama's titles being split. I'll take split for the next five years in a row, no problem.

75 times total over the past few years or recently? I just read an article so I posted it. I looked back over a few days and didnt see a thread. But it looks like you have been on here way longer than me. My apologies. Just catching up on some recent articles.
