Which is a great example of why these "recruiting experts" aren't on any college basketball staffs.

You mean getting top ranked recruiting classes does not mean success on the court? Trust me, watching so called “top recruits” getting schooled by future insurance salesmen sucks in March.

Just shows how good of a scout, coach and developer Hurley and his staff are at the moment. He seems to value cohesion and mentality over raw talent.

He comes off as a total NJ prick, but he is far and away the best coach in CBB right now.

Have a great system.

Understand the type of player you need in that system.

Be good at evaluating players on how they fit in that system.

Be a great recruiter of the players you believe fit in that system.

Develop kids to maximize their efficiency in that system.

There is a certain talent level that you need to play in any system, but each kid has different skillsets that will produce at different levels in different types of styles. The best coaches find the best fits with the most talent for the way they play.

The worst coaches both have no true system and just recruit hodgepodges of players.

The up and down coaches have no true system but recruit elite talents and sometimes they fit and sometimes they don't.

Apparently, rankings mean even less in hoops than in football.

Trying to justify a roster full of role players and no real stars to depend on.
