Quarterbacks I would draft over Cameron Newton if available:

Andrew Luck
Ryan Mallet
Nic Foles
Blaine Gabbert
Christian Ponder

People need to understand that being a dominant running quarterback has inflated Newton's passing numbers (Stephon Gilmore having the coverage skills of a dead moose only helps him look better). Could Newton eventually develop into a good quarterback? Sure, but he has shown nothing more than great raw athletic ability and being a great athlete alone doesn't help you do shite in the NFL.

He's shown to have fantastic pocket presence, to have elite accuracy, to have top notch mobility, to have great throwing mechanics, to have elite athleticism, and a number of other intangibles.

People trash his footwork, but that's gotten so much better over the season. People trash his ability to throw intermediate throwing routes, that is just garbage, he throws them fine. He's got all the potential in the world.

is this a joke?

No GM worth his weight in seahorse shite is going to take him in the first round.

:rotflmao: :rotflmao: :rotflmao:

dude give it up. This isn't even debatable.

I could look up every draft website and they would all say he is a 1st rounder.

There is an extremely good chance he's a top 15 pick. Lot of teams are looking for a QB and he's one of the top QBs in the draft.

yep. That's all you need to know. Shoot I'm not that big a fan of Kiper but he has him as a top 10 pick.

valid point but have you seen Mike Vick lately? Sure athleticism alone doesn't help you but it sure helps.

you couldn't be more right Ross.

He has come leaps and bounds since when he played Clemson earlier in the season.

And everyone of those draft experts said Jevan Snead was going to be a first rounder last year. Also said Jimmy Clausen was going to be one as well. Hell Jake Locker was a sure-lock to be the top pick last season.

These "recruiting experts" are no different than your average message board poster. They 1. Get a journalism degree and 2. operate a website. Remind me of what college/NFL team that Mel Kiper played/coached for? Todd McShay? I laugh when people put so much stock into these guy's OPINIONS and act like their words are gospel. Shows their intelligence.

nope that was Todd Mchsay and no one else.

true.

yeah last season. Alot changes in a full year. BTW, he still has a chance to be a top 10.

I don't even know where to begin pulling this apart.

Kiper/ Mchshay are probably the worst examples you could use.

However, most that write for websites talking about the draft have experience in some capacity in the NFL.

Do the words "If Available" not comprehend with you?

Vick is finally becoming a quarterback because he is using his athletic ability as a fallback option, rather than using it alone. Learning how to stand in the pocket, read coverages and realizing that just because you don't see a guy open immediately doesn't mean you automatically take off.

Newton has proven he's a great athlete, but he won't be running zone reads, double reverses, and jet sweeps in the NFL.

I will stand by my statement that any GM that takes Cameron Newton in the first round is making a mistake. He's not ready now nor will he be by September of next year. Draft him in the mid-late rounds and let him learn how to play in an NFL offense.

no they do but what you are suggesting is ludicrous.

with Foles you had a decent point but he isn't even up for debate as he is coming back.

Gabbert: no way. What makes you think he will be better anyway?

and yet strangely enough this is EXACTLY what newton does unless it is a designed Qb run.

you do realize all these plays have been used in the NFL with success right?

big difference between that and saying he won't be taken in the 1st.

I don't think anyone would argue he most likely isn't ready for his 1st year. But if you sit him his 1st yr (as qb's mostly are) and he can good his 2nd year then you win out.

You really dont believe Cam will go in the first round? Ill go as far as to say hes a lock. Great potential, remember it only takes one to fall in love with him like the broncos with Tebow

yep that's a fact. BTW, other teams were highly interested in Tebow.

lol Did you watch the same Auburn games I did?

You do realize that not a single team uses all of these plays regularly as a part of their offenses right?

This is irrelevant til April, but Cameron Newton will not pan out as a top 15 pick. If any team drafts him with the intention of starting him his rookie year they will fail massively.

more athletic, stronger arm, can make all the throws, and played vs. tougher competition.

yeah and I' m not sure when the last time you watched Auburn is because you clearly are seeing something very different from the truth.

and? You said it doesn't work in the NFL and it does.

Cameron Newton will not pan out as a top 15 pick

based on what?

I won't disagree.

So had Tim Tebow, Tommy Frazier, Charlie Ward (though he chose NBA), and Danny Wuerffel. I'm sorry, but system QBs have never panned out in the NFL. Vick is the only QB right now that is different simply because of his athletic ability. I think it's worth a shot picking Cam, but I wouldn't put the stake of my franchise on him, which is what you do with a top 10-15 pick in the draft.

Everyone is a fricking system QB.
