Sure are a LOT of threads about Jimbo being started by LSU fans.

Indeed.

For a fan base that has maintained Jimbo is overpaid and has accomplished nothing at A&M, they sure are interested in paying even more than Aggy for Jimbo.

What makes LSU a great job?

Committment to winning national championships
Elite facilities
Flagship university
Great recruiting area
Plenty of financial backing
History of competing for and winning the conference and national championships
Member of the SEC
Great fan support

All the non-bolded points are absolutely true. Undeniable.

Regarding financial backing, LSU has struggled in the past, so I am not so sure. Maybe I have been misled.

On the other point, we have been told REPEATEDLY that the "flagship" of any state is the one bearing the name "University of _____." Live by the sword, die by the sword.

The Flagship University of Louisiana is in Lafayette.

Take your medicine.

Do you really think OU ends with a better recruiting class in 2022 than A&M? Is this your first year following recruiting?

You seem awfully sure about yourself considering A&M has been only slightly better in recruiting the last four years than OU.

Looking at 247 rankings, you average 8.75 and we average 9.25.

Add the fact that the SEC advantage that you had over OU and UT is about to completely disintegrate. Recruits know who the blue bloods are.

(All that said, I don't support the assertion that we are and will out-recruit everyone in the next two years. That is unlikely.)

Two different factions of Tiger fans you're referring to.

I understand that not all LSU fans are that way. However, LSU fans (some not all) hate Georgia because of a couple of Georgia fans trolling your fan base....soooo...you paint with a broad brush you get painted with a broad brush.

I get that. FWIW, I think he would be a terrible cultural fit for LSU. I think he is a good coach. Funny, Orgeron was a great cultural fit but a bad coach and Fisher would be a good coach but a bad cultural fit. Get somebody that is both and LSU goes back for another title fast.

He also called A&M a “former second-tier” program. There is obviously gray area regarding tiers, but A&M is traditionally more of a fourth-tier program. You can’t be in the top three tiers with no championships since World War II.
Since I received one of my degrees from A&M (something that most LSU fans cannot say, but that is a different question), the Aggies have won seven football championships in two top conferences (LSU has won six in the same time period), have appeared in more than a dozen New Year bowl games and have had multiple top-5 finishes at year-end.

No, we've not won a national title, but I would hardly call that the description of a 4th-tier program. "Historically second-tier?" Yes, in many ways. Most honest Aggies acknowledge this assessment.

If A&M is such a great place to coach, why hasn’t it won anything in 80 years?

The Aggies are trending up, and the Swamp Kittens are trending down. A coach looking for a fixer-upper might be interested in the latter job.

2. top-tier state
I dunno man..... there is a LOT of suck in Austin.
True, re Austin.

But it is hard to find a measure on which Texas is not ranked in the top half of the country, usually in the top quartile.

It is equally hard to find one on which Louisiana is not ranked in the bottom quartile.

It is what it is.

Flagship university
Folks can argue whether TAMU or t.u. is the "flagship" university in the entire State of Texas. The answer will depend upon the metric used, because both are admittedly-excellent university systems.

But either way, TAMU is the flagship university of a system that dwarfs the LSU system on every metric, from endowment to size to academics to prestige. LSU is a "flagship" only by virtue of being the largest in a state that is essentially a third-world shithole.

It is always interesting that the T-shirt fans of the world try to run with this angle when both Texas and Texas A&M admins and leadership and media and pretty much everyone else in the world has already moved on with the state having multiple flag schools.

Literally two seconds of google searching can illuminate. Ignorance gives me the sads.

He is referencing 2022, and it does seem like the A&M pipeline will yield a better class.

Now the OU 2023 class is looking to be off the charts at this point. No denying that if you can hold on to the current commits and likely future pickups.

Interesting spin.

It means that you as an athletic department have been overachieving for some time now and will likely revert to the mean.

Other universities with better funding, more coherent leadership, and equal or better appeal to recruits will achieve better results through sheer advantage.

During my adult life, the Aggies have had a very good football program, but not a "great one." I appreciate the former, accept the latter and hope to see it improve further under Fisher.

What do you see as "spin?"

I wouldn't expect many LSU fans have degrees from A&M, they are more likely from LSU. Most alums cheer for the school they attended.
