I’m in the camp that everybody has the SAME setup.

*This would be more enjoyable if EVERY CONFERENCE had the same format & just battle it out on the field.

We’re on the precipice of Indiana at 11-1 with no quality wins getting in the playoff over a much better 2 loss SEC team. If that happens there’s really no justification for the SEC to go to 9 conference games.

In that event, some annual
games will have to go away to get a full rotation every 4 years as the conference has said it wants to to do.

For example, come 2026 will Alabama play Auburn or Tennessee.

LSU should take the annual LSU-Arkansas game away. Since LSU has been dominant over Arkansas for so long.

So freaking what if YOU have to play the same team every year?

I agree that 9 games will be implemented.

And I understand that thought process, but college football overall benefits from more teams in the mix imo. Getting left out certainly sucks, but every single team in the country has a path to make the playoffs.. win the games on your schedule, no matter who you are.. and you are in..

Army
Boise
Tulane
Texas
Oregon
SMU

When you lose 1 game.. 2 games.. that puts your playoff birth in jeopardy.. again, no matter who you are.. It's very unlikely a B1G or SEC team gets left out at 11-1 though.. but losing 2 games on the bubble.. and at that point, it's a beauty contest without a perfect way to figure it out.

In your method, pods, divisions, whatever.. you do get more clarity, but you also have more people checking out because their team is definitely eliminated.. South Carolina for example.. yes, it's a one in a million chance for them to get in at this point, but that's better than 0%.

There are advantages and disadvantages both ways though..

True. Hince why if everybody had the same setup, like the pro sports, we could officially drop this subject & focus more on the games.

I don't like the 8 team deal. Schedule is just too random across the board, no base of comparison.

Won't matter in long run though, CFP will probably expand to 16-24 teams within 3-5 years. And if SEC/Big10 don't each get 4-5 teams in then they'll just break off.

LSU and Ole Miss is probably a bigger rivalry but that doesn’t mean the Arkansas LSU rivalry is a hoax. There have been some incredible games over the years.

That is dumb. While it keeps rivalries for those that have them, it DOESN’T have a balanced rotation #.
Say you have 3 perm you play each year. You would only have 5 slots to play the other 12 teams…taking ~2.5 years to see the conference JUST ONCE! Compare that to a team with 1 perm could do H/A with everybody in just over 4years.

So, it boils down to YES or NO to perms & keep everybody the same.

Settle down, it was because of the Georgia-Auburn and Tennessee-Bama games that we didn't play other teams for 8 years under the old system. (UGA STILL hasn't played at A&M) Playing them every three isn't going to cause the demise of western civilization. I want to play Auburn every year and if that means I only play Mizzou 2 times every five years than so be it.

Just because you disagree doesn't make the other point dumb. Plus balanced schedules are an illusion.

Iron Bowl would stay and the Georgia game would go. We lost our Florida rivalry and Tennessee rivalry and GT rivalry so getting rid of Georgia would be no big deal.

Schedule them as out if conference games that don't impact SEC standings.

Too easy.

This is about perfect imo.. with a 9 game schedule. I don't know how you could get more balanced.

It won't work if Alabama and LSU have to play each year.. but the format will work.. you just have to shift the teams around.

In general.. there is a left side and right side to function like a division.. but you plays the same side (like a division) in Years 1 & 2. But all teams play the other side in Years 3 & 4.

It's based on the 3-6 model.

Thoughts?

Keep 2, rotate 6 teams.

If you must have them every 4 years for some weird reason that's never been needed in the history of the conference, then just don't do all the games back to back.

That said, I'm one of the few who doesn't care about the rivalry games and think sometimes less is more.

How/why are balanced schedules dumb?

I know there’s no way to balance strength of schedules amongst everybody.
But what’s wrong with the format being the same?
Just like the 9 conf. game issue…those who have 4H this year will get 5H next year.

Honestly, WHY should games between 2 SEC teams NOT count as rivalry games?
